2.5 tog I'd imagine ?

purrtrillpadpadpad · 13/11/2013 09:33

This Dreambag sleeping bag tog guide really helped me get my head around what tog bag I needed for the weather and what she should be wearing underneath it to avoid overheating. There's a table so you can work out what is best.

Applepiesky · 13/11/2013 09:39

Thanks ladies. purr that's a handy table and veg useful, thank you!

I swaddled for the first few months with mine before I switched to grow bags. I think they slept better but I was so sleep deprived i might just be imagining it! might be worth looking into?

flyawayblue · 13/11/2013 10:30

hey cheeky question in op's thread but what do you do if they are too small for grow bags at first? I was thinking swaddle but the recent media put dh off.

Applepiesky · 13/11/2013 10:31

Thanks bunny - I may swaddle... I haven't really decided yet... I'm definitely not opposed to it :-)

flyaway - I saw some tiny baby/premature gro bags on www.vertbaudet.co.uk .... Worth a look?

flyawayblue I used sleeping bags from the start. The Purflo newborn ones are teeny tiny and were perfect for my 6 lb babies. I used this brand for three months or so until they could safely use an 0-6 months Grobag.

purrtrillpadpadpad · 13/11/2013 11:34

Huh, I did not know they made them for newborns! Every day is a school day. I'll have to remember that if we go completely insane and have any more.

AHardDaysWrite · 13/11/2013 11:37

Merino Kids bags are more expensive than others but brilliant. No worrying about tog ratings as they're natural wool and one size fits nb-2yrs. I have two standard and two winter weight ones (one on, one in the wash) and they're on my second baby now and still going strong.

Applepiesky · 13/11/2013 11:54

You can get some at bargain prices at TK maxx too - not sure what brands tho!

Call me old fashioned but whats wrong with blankets? They'll last whereas you have to keep buying the next size up gro-bags? It just sounds like a great marketing ploy...

Sorry to be a humbug! Grin

purrtrillpadpadpad · 13/11/2013 17:03

Nothing is wrong with them! I interchange. I guess the main problem I had with blankets was highlighted to me when I left the room whilst dd was sleeping and when I came back a few minutes later she'd pulled the blanket over her face. She was only tiny. I shit myself. Sleeping bags are designed to be quite a neat fit around the shoulders / neck area and keep baby absolutely snug as a bug without them being able to cover their faces with it.

I believe it is a recognised risk with blankets, albeit low.

redcarrot1 · 13/11/2013 17:20

hmmm...I can see your point.

I think I read in a Gina Ford book that one way of securing blankets was to roll one up and wedge it between the mattress and the bars. Anyone tried this?

Stevie77 · 13/11/2013 17:23

Applepiesky my first was too small for a sleeping bag until a couple of months old, I just used blankets and tucked the sides under the mattress. They don't really move around that much when that young.

Also, I never used Grobags, only used non-brand sleeping bags (from Asda!), 2.5 tog at half the price!

rallytog1 · 13/11/2013 17:24

Grobags are perfect for wiggly babies. My dd was a very stretchy and wriggly sleeper from birth and lost her blankets within minutes of being put down. Sleeping bags were a godsend to us, as we didn't have to keep getting up to sort out blankets. I honestly wouldn't even bother with blankets again. Sleeping bags may be a gimmick but they work!

Christelle2207 · 13/11/2013 17:32

Also re. Blankets children can kick them off during the night and wake up cold!

redcarrot1 · 13/11/2013 18:07

ok...sorry for the thread highjack but when do bundles get used? Are they just lighter gro-bags? Do they go over a baby gro and then you put a blanket over it?

RenterNomad · 13/11/2013 18:32

TKMaxx is good for outvif season GroBsgs (and each GroBag packet has a cardboard thermometer in there, which has the grid of tog ratings for differebt temperatures.

John Lewis also do sleeping bags (more cheaply than full price GroBags, and as the GroBags in TKM tend to be out of season, this could help)

If your house is warm, though, you might only need a 1.0 tog bag!

Geneticsbunny · 13/11/2013 18:32

What is a bundle?

Handbagsonnhold · 13/11/2013 18:37

Op we found Gro bags fab used them from around 3 months until just over 2. I like the idea of not having blankets etc to pull over themselves when they are little....just one less thing to worry about. Also fab for containing budding young escapeesGrin

Asda do bags for 12 pounds, I swaddled at first for a few weeks then puts ds in a bag. I have a different brand that is supposed to be 0-6 months and at 4 months its still to big on the shoulders and it gets all bunched up. The asda ones seem to fit ds really well, but he's on the 6-12 month one now as he's really long.
