Inductions?

I'm on a couple of American preggo boards too as I'm living here at the moment and also have a lot of friends who've recently had babies here and it seems pretty much everyone induces these days.

For reasons such as 'I wanted this doc not that doc', 'I didn't want to go past 39 weeks as I'm uncomfortable', 'I wanted a Halloween baby(?!)', 'I didn't want stretch marks', 'I'm older (35) and my doc likes his Moms to have birthed at 37 weeks'.

Is this becoming the norm in the UK too?

Half the reasons I hear must be against the hypocritical oath doctors take and in the case of the States I'm sure it's to screw more money out of you (a really high percentage start with pitocin which is so painful you have to have an epidural then that slows it down so more pitocin then another epidural then have to have c section and boom! - you're in for $50,000 at least. This is how EIGHT of my friend's births have gone recently.

I miss the good old NHS.

I've never quite understood the American way...they seem to interfere a lot more - on every level.

As far as I know, midwives and doctors over here are still pushing for more natural labours/delivery and don't like to intervene unless it's nessisary.
I had a tantrum with my midwife last week because I was fed up and uncomfy but she made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that I would not be induced before 40+12...
She's attempted a few more sweeps than is perhaps normal but then I'm going for vbac this time so they'll try things like that to prevent induction/csec again.

Needless to say, I am still pregnant and booked for induction on Saturday.

How are you bummy?

Still bloody pregnant.

Actually, despite what I've just said, ask me my feelings on induction in a week lol.

I'm lucky I'm having a home birth or there's no WAY they'd let me go over 40 weeks as apparently I'm old (36, bastards!) and I've put on too much weight (40 pounds - 2.8 stone). My midwife can fudge it with my due date a bit so the latest I can go is the 28th.

That's another thing they are NOT at all supported of over here - vbacs. It's pretty hard to find any hospital/doc that will do them.

How are you doing?

Just marking my place as watching this with interest. Am really struggling with making a decision at the moment- am 35+6 and breech. Seeing the consultant on Friday, and can't decide whether to have the baby "spun" or go for elcs.

Normally would at least try to spin the baby through acupuncture, reflexology etc, but am really worried about going for natural birth, then being overdue and having the baby at Xmas (wouldn't normally be an issue, but DS is with ExP alternate Christmases, so if I miss this year I will effectively not see him for 3 Christmases in a row). If I knew they would induce me at, say, a week over, it would make the decision much easier, but as Rhibeetee said, I think they won't induce until at least 10 days late

Gaaah- all too difficult!!

Trying to cling on to the end being in sight...

How do they feel about you home birthing? Because they're super against it here, which I can't understand?!

I'm pretty miserable today. Tears, a sulk I can't get out of and still go this horrible cold...coupled with consistent pain that go nowhere, yep, I'm fed up!!
