Tea - how much are you drinking?

I couldn't stand tea at all between about 8 and 16/17 weeks. Now am really struggling to stay within acceptable limits. Am usually having 3 cups a day which I'm sure is too much - have had 4 on the odd occasion. Sometimes I have had chocolate too which obviously adds to the caffeine intake.

I don't drink coffee, coca cola or anything else with caffeine.

I replace with decaff tea where I can but the nature of my job is that I don't always have access to tea making facilities, only to cafe type set-up where you can buy tea but not decaff. I'm not mad on herbal.

Just wondered how everyone else is doing on the caffeine and how important you think it is. I'm not overly worrying about it but would like to know how much people are limiting the caffeine intake...

Am feeling a bit that if I manage to avoid listeria food poisoning risk foods I am doing well!

I try to have no more than 3 cups a day. I don't think it's anything to worry about though :)

I only had decaf and only one or two cups a day and odd can of coke and no coffee but I don't drink it anyway.
Partly because of the caffeine but also because I read that the tannin in tea stops you absorbing iron and I am low on iron anyway.

I have endless cups of tea but I do have de-caff. I always carry de-caff tea bags in my handbag so if I'm out socially and the person/establishment can't offer de-caff tea bags I have my own supplies Smile

This was the first question I asked when I found out I was pregnant, was told not to worry unless I was having about 6 cups a day. 6 cups for me is nothing in terms of drinking tea (10 not unusual!) so switched to decaf.

Taking your own supply of decaf is good idea, though if your in a café your essentially paying £2 for some hot water.

I consume far too much caffeine, but in my defence it is lot, lot, lot less than pre-pregnancy when I thought nothing of washing pro-plus down with Red Bull for breakfast.

Three cups of tea a day and a shed load of chocolate

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx#Caffeine - gives what the limits are and how much caffeine is in coffee/tea/chocolate, etc

One builder's tea to get me going in the morning, then decaff. I carry decaff teabags with me and have a stash at work. I have MC several times so I am probably overcautious.

Decaff at home (I'm at home most of the time); and then I don't worry about the odd cup of real tea if I'm out, at someone else's house etc, but not more than two cups a day. Decaff does taste like dishwater though...I've got hold of some powdered chai latte as an occasional alternative. I don't drink coffee anyway, but have an occasional coke if we're in a pub, and chocolate.
