Pregnant with a toddler

Just found out I'm pregnant with dc2. Currently 6 weeks pregnant and already have a dd who would be 2.1 when the baby arrives. I had really bad spd last time and was exhausted for a lot of the time. Consequently I'm concerned about how to manage any pregnancy symptoms whilst looking after a toddler. Any advice welcomed.

Ps I'm v excited :-)

Hi and congratulations! I am 33 wks with DC2, DD1 will be 2.3 when little one arrives. Si far I have felt remarkably energetic and well compared to last time and I put it down to having to carry on as normal with a toddler to look after. Saying that I have often gone on to bed at the same time as her! The worst time for me was when I had sickness but thankfully that has subsided. I would recommend plenty of early nights and rest when your toddler does. I am still managing to waddle round after mine although its getting trickier.

Congrats! I'm in the same situation. I'm 18 weeks now and knackered! My toddler is relentless. You're doing the right thing by resting as much as you can.
I do worry that it's going to get much harder as the pregnancy progresses but what can you do other than just plod on? Grin
Sometimes she'll gave cbeebies on if I need a little rest, I'm planning to keep going to lots of toddler groups and soft play places so at least I can have a sit down and a tea while she burns off some energy!

Congratulations Grin

I had ds2 6 months ago, ds1 had just turned 2.

My pregnancies were COMPLETELY different!! With ds1 I has crippling spd and was knackered for the whole pregnancy.
With ds2 I was fine. I felt great, bags of energy (thank god!!) and what's more, the spd didn't come back Grin

Once the morning sickness was over, by about 14 weeks, I can honestly say I enjoyed the pregnancy and didn't struggle looking after a toddler at all (and I was HUGE by the end Wink)

Good luck OP

I have to say I found it really hard work 2nd time around with 23 month gap, but I was 37 and had cholestasis which was a nightmare,
I did rely on the digital baby sitter sometimes but made the most of day time naps when DS was napping and went to bed early. I also went out a lot to soft play and toddler groups as this allows you to sit and wares them out!
Congratulations

I'm 20 weeks with dc2 and dc1 is currently 16 months, and its much better than the 1st preg! I haven't been so obsessive over how many weeks and days I am and what particular fruit or foodstuff the baby is a comparable size to and its flown by! I guess you have other stuff to focus on!
With regards to symptoms, first 12 weeks the sickness and especially tiredness were hard but I just took her to lots of baby activities where I could have a little sit and watch her play eg soft play, baby music etc. and I went to bed as soon as she did. xxx

Second the soft play/toddler group plan. Let them tear around while you sit. We went to soft play a lot. Go in the morning, then stretch it out with lunch/trip to toy shop/DVD shop for a pm distraction. Then nap and tv for the remainder of the day!

Currently 16weeks with a 15 month old and I'm taking it easy. Horrid SPD in first pregnancy and have felt twinges from 7 weeks this time but I just manage what I do so its not too sore and if I do to much one day we then have a restful couple of days. Hoping I can continue to manage it as long as possible not sure a toddler and crutches would work very well!

I'm almost 31 weeks and ds is 2.2 months.

i had HG so was really sick, but even though i have a massive bump i forget I'm pregnant sometimes. I have to carry on, i cant just wallow like i want to.

it is hard, but you manage

i just had my 3rd baby and had a toddler through that pregnancy shes nearly 2 and still woke up in the night etc right up untill i gave birth and tbh yeah its exhausting with a lil one wen pregnant but its bearable i have a great dh who helped alot so i cud rest

I felt worse with this pregnancy early on. Struggled with managing toddler and feeling rubbish until about 17 weeks. I did a lot of lying on the sofa while toddler played but the weeks did fly past.

But now, in later pregnancy I feel great. Loads of energy. I agree with the other advice about toddler groups and soft play. Tire out toddler and a chance for you to sit down and have a cup of tea.

Congrats!
