Heart Burn

I know this is a common complaint but I'm in so much discomfort!

It started last night, not long before I went to bed and it hasn't gone away. I can feel burning in my stomach and burning at the back of my throat, I keep having little burps too and stomach acid is coming up. I thought it only occurred after eating but I haven't had anything for 7 hours now so why is it still here??

It makes no difference if I'm lying down or sitting up - it is just continually there Hmm

I think it can be just as bad if there's nothing in your stomach. Try anything that might help: milk, natural yoghurt, gaviscon, ranitidine, etc. It's awful but you will find a way to manage it!

My heart burn is always WAY worse when I'm hungry... Try eating. It sucks though, I sympathise.

I've just had some French Baguette and Custard Creams with a cup of tea. It does seem to have eased a little Smile

Try ranitidine? It's amazing. Or ask your dr for omeprazole equally amazing!
I suffered bad but since the omeprazole I haven't had any!
Ranitidine you can get over the counter
Asda own are £1.95
X

In the mean time try milk and yogurts. Like the ski smooth ones.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Last night was unbearable, I was awake until about 2am because of the burning Sad Every time I moved I got another rush of pain and no position made it any better. It doesn't seem so bad this morning but it is still there, lurking in the background. My hubby went to ASDA a short while ago and said he will get me some Gaviscon - if I have no luck with that then I'll look into the rantitidine/omeprazole options.

REally, really, really recommend omaprazole. Know how you feel though, constant heartburn is completely debilitating.

tigerpug · 09/11/2013 19:49

Same here. Milk doesn't work for me. Gaviscon makes me hurl.
On someones recommendation I tired chewing gum last night in bed, and it definitely seemed to ease the symptoms. I will do the same tonight because its bad again.
Although when i woke up this morning there was no chewing gum in my mouth - it wasnt on the pillow so I must have swallowed it!

JoinTheDots · 09/11/2013 19:53

oh god, I have it so bad at the moment, but gaviscon does work for me thank god. I am drinking it like its water mind!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/11/2013 20:04

I haven't been too bad during the day but have just made the mistake of having Chilli for tea and now the pain is starting Hmm

Hubby forgot to buy the Gaviscon earlier too.... Sad

Remegel work lovely for me.

CrispyFB · 09/11/2013 20:23

Pretty sure you can only get omeprazole on prescription, but it really does the job. There is a big difference between heartburn that can be fixed by some milk/rennies/gaviscon and the sort of heartburn that is there 24/7 like a hot poker in the throat that those things don't touch. That was me from 7 weeks. With the omeprazole I only feel a bit sore occasionally if I've eaten the "wrong" stuff and a gaviscon fixes that.

I never knew heartburn could be so debilitating in pregnancy and always thought people were making far too big a deal out of it as I could always sort it with over the counter medicines.. then I had this pregnancy. I know better now!

If yours doesn't shift within a day or so you need to see a GP really.

Me and hubby just went to a 24 hour Tesco because I needed some relief. I picked up some Gaviscon Chewable Tablets and although they taste vile they seem to have done the trick. Apparently I can take 2-4 tablets at any one time, I have taken 2 initially and will see how I go Smile

Ranitidine is over the counter. But omeprazole is prescription only x

Writerwannabe83 · 10/11/2013 10:05

Well the Gaviscon worked a treat - I had a fantastic nights sleep and I feel absolutely fine this morning too Grin
