Does anyone know of a good pram?

Hi everyone
I'm 11 weeks pregnant and looking for a good pram already...I think I'm too prepared! I think I'll be needing a fairly lightweight or easy to fold pram as I rely heavily on the bus and I'll be alone a lot as OH will be at work.
We both liked the Silver Cross Linear and the 3D but reviews have said these are quite heavy when folded. Has anyone got any recommendations for me please? Smile

We went for uppababy vista, very easy to fold and freestanding when folded which was important to us for storage in our tiny house but I do think its one of the wider ones on the market. If you go into kiddicare they're great at advising you and know all details of the different prams

I've gone for a bugaboo chameleon. There are loads of prams to suit different needs, terrains, size, price. John Lewis give good advice Smile

We went for silvercross pop. looks like a buggy but seat can lie flat for newborns. At the time lived in 2nd floor flat, no lift so lightweight was important (plus small budget). It weighed about 7kg and had a shoulder strap for carrying when folded. Cost maybe 100ish? Easy to find accessories to go wih it (raincover, footmuff).

Definitely don't get the Linear or 3d!! Linear is huge and heavy, 3d is difficult to push and heavy! Something like a Bugaboo Bee, or babystyle oyster gem would be ideal, or a stroller that's suitable from birth. Basically, if the bus is busy you will have the choice between folding the pram or waiting for another bus, so anything easy to fold and carry is a good idea.

I also use a sling - walk to bus stop, pop baby into sling, fold pram, then put baby back into pram when getting off the bus!

I love my baby jogger city select, if you have another it can be a double too. I'm a childminder and it fits in the tiny boot of my galaxy with the 7 seats up too so not much room.

Def don't go for a 3d they're awful to push my old one used to feel like the handle would snap if I was pushing it one handed.

Foxeym · 08/11/2013 06:55

I got the baby style oyster and it's great, folds up small enough to fit in the boot of my tiny fiat 500 and is light enough to lift after my c-section but feels sturdy and easy to push with one hand!

Inglori0us · 08/11/2013 07:01

Bugaboo Bee is great. It's versatile, reasonably light, easy to fold and cheaper than the other Bugaboos. Go to a Mothercare or Kiddicare and try loads of them out.
Also you won't be expected to fold it on the bus with a newborn (in my experience). If there's no spare buggy room on the bus you just need to wait for another one.

I have the linear and it's not easy to fold! You have to take the whole body off the wheels to fold the wheels up! On the plus side the basket is good for shopping x

Thesimplethings · 08/11/2013 07:08

I've got the city select too. I've used mine as a double and a single. Two years in its still going strong and looks as good as the day I bought it. It's great in the winter too due the the big back wheels.

Artandco · 08/11/2013 07:12

Have a look at the baby zen yoyo. The newborn lie flat version is due out next year so maybe on time. It folds tiny and can be carried on shoulder, and also small enough to take on plane as hand lugggage!

KittieCat · 08/11/2013 07:12

I love our Stokke. I can't drive and it works for me on public transport. If the Xplory feels too big for you then try the Crusi.

Honestly can't recommend them highly enough. Their customer service is also superb.

KittieCat · 08/11/2013 07:14

Sorry I meant try the Stokke Scoot. The Crusi is good too but IIRC the Scoot is the 'urban' one.

KatAndKit · 08/11/2013 07:16

Mamas and papas urbo. Lovely and compact when folded, not heavy, nice comfy seat, lie flat fir newborn, can attach a carrycot to it if you prefer. I picked up a great second hand one for less than £100. So much more user friendly than the giant graco system i started out with.

stargirl1701 · 08/11/2013 07:23

We have a Stokke Xplory too. It's amazing. It's definitely our best buy for DD. I sold my car so relied on the bus for 6 months before I went back to work.

redcaryellowcar · 08/11/2013 07:36

We have uppababy vista , its light, folds easily and has lasted well (ours in 2 yrs old and Will be good for baby 2 when it arrives next year) john Lewis stock them now, so they are seen more often, worth a look there if you have a john Lewis nearby.

tshirtsuntan · 08/11/2013 07:37

I had a silver cross 3d and absolutely loved it! Easy to fold, looks so comfy for newborns, changes position really easily and I didn't find it heavy at all as a pram/pushchair. The car seat that attaches is quite heavy however, so when all put together as a travel system it was heavy. I didn't buy it to use all together regularly, iyswim, so not a problem. ( had the blue denim one- gorgeous!

Horispondle · 08/11/2013 07:40

I can't recommend one but I had a nightmare with a SilverCross Surf left me pramless twice whilst getting it repaired and the customer service was appalling Shock! If I was to do it again I think the Stokke's look fab, especially for having baby high up closer to you.

MissHC · 08/11/2013 10:41

OP I'd suggest you go to a good retailer. They should be able to give you some options with those criteria.

For a light pushchair, suitable from birth, good for public transport, I'd say Bugaboo Bee or Uppababy Cruz.

bootheunicorn · 08/11/2013 17:10

Thankyou everyone :) there's just so many choices out there, it becomes a bit overwhelming! I'll have a look at all your recommendations and see which one looks the best for me!

My advice is to get a second hand pram or travel system (there are always loads on gumtree) and once dc gets here you'll know better which pushchair you need. We were given a mamas and papas travel system which was ok for first 6 months but

then I knew that my priority was easy folding and small storage so I got a babyjogger citi micro. I loved it so much that I'm actually a bit sad that ds doesn't need a pushchair anymore!
