I'm SO fed up Sad just home from midwife appt that's left me very upset- last week at 39+5 MW gave me a sweep telling me it was successful and I was 2-3 cm dilated! I left feeling so excited!! Now I'm over due 40+3 she attempted 2nd sweep which was sore and "unsuccessful" she couldn't reach and it and it's still "pretty high up" ShockConfusedHmm how can I go from being 2-3cm dilated to this? I'm so fed up, cried all the way home...

Now induction is booked for next Thursday, i just feel like baby is never going to come? How long does it take for cervix to open up and dilate? I feel like it's never going to happen! Has anyone ever been told their sweep was unsuccessful and gone in to labour soon after?

Someone please make me feel better, I'm so fed up and tired... X

It can fully dilate from closed in a matter of minutes during labour so I wouldn't worry. There is no set rule as to how fast or slow they dilate.

If you're upset about being induced then give it a few extra days. They always throw down the "potential of a stillborn" bomb to push women to be induced but the reality is at 42 weeks the stillborn risk rises from 0.3% to 0.7% chance, even less if you've had a healthy pregnancy and you are a healthy adult - the risk does "double" but is still very small. On the flip side being induced puts you at "high risk" and so constant monitoring and increased chance of forceps or c-section delivery. Being induced or not is 100% your decision so weigh it up even if you can't wait for your baby to arrive.

I know this final stretch feels like forever but it'll all kick off before you know it. Babies don't just stay in there.
