BFP with a home test. Called Dr's surgery-they want me to to do a test there 'to make sure'. Is this normal?

BFP no 5 (as in I've been pg 5 times before...), as has happened in the past I have tested and kind of known what the result would be. I've then just booked in with the midwife at some point.

This will be my first pg while registered with this doctor, I called up to find out what their procedure is, when they want to see you etc. They want me in right away to do a test with them, I've never had to do this before, I thought that the shop bought tests were as accurate as the ones used by the doctors...or has something changed? Or is this what happens now?

not a clue!

never heard this but there are some countries where it's done - you have to test with the GP's test so they can make sure it's really your result not someone else's (insurance, work, benefits issues etc)

I'd take a test to show it to the GP, then would probably do their test, then question the reasons and show my annoyance, then I'd say that as they are taking blood why can't they just check that if I'm pg or not.

I don't suggest you must put up a fight, but I'd be fucking annoyed.
I don't like peeing at the doctors and I mostly do the urine sample thing at home and hand it in at the appointment.

if it was a must I'd do it while grumbling and rolling my eyes and tutting.
coz I'm like thatGrin

btw congratulations!Thanks

then probably would refuse to* do their test....

sorry

..thank you! It's not even a blood test, it's another 'sample'. I've got months of carting little pots of wee about with me, I didn't want to start just yet!

I wasn't asked to but in some ways I was surprised they just took my word for it and didn't want to check.

...I think I'll just wait until I've missed another period, I'm feeling as sick as a pig and I've done another 2 tests just to be sure! I'm wondering about the possibility of using a IM this time anyway so I'm not sure if I'd even need to go in to the surgery if I went ahead with that.

Our kcal hospital went through a phase of doing this because a couple of women turned up for their 12 week scan only to discover they had read the HPT incorrectly and weren't pregnant at all.

wispaxmas · 05/11/2013 20:02

dontmix, surely they would have had their period before they would have been going in for the nuchal scan!

My GP didn't have me do a test, but I think it used to be normal because hpts weren't as good as they now are. I personally think it's a little odd, but whatever. It can't do any harm, can it?

My dr tested not sure why didn't question it at time. He also handed me a prescription for folic acid even though I had loads. Then tore it up when I said I'd got some. :/

No def not standard, I work with doctors and normally unless you need to discuss your concerns about being pregnant or are feeling ill then no they don't want to see you.
The tests the surgery use are the bog basic kind and when asked if you can come in for a test the answer is no go and buy one.
Maybe you just got to speak to the wrong person.
A consultation between you and a doctor is just that, if you don't feel it's relevant or necessary don't bother.
But that's just my opinion, the inner cynic just makes me think that they've got a new hoop to jump through for some funding.
