Pregnancy and leg swelling - hot country

Hi, I recently discovered I was 6 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. First time round I had terrible swelling in my legs which I managed by wearing strong support tights during the daytime. I am now living in a country with a hot climate and wondering how I am going to cope this time round :-( Any tips from fellow mums with a similar issue? Thanks very much!

I am 30 wks pg, living in south east Asia and have the exact same problem. My ankles and feet are swollen an hour after waking and have done this since week 21. Sometimes they are so swollen and the skin is so tight, it's painful. Obviously rest does help, but I have just learnt to accept it. Hopefully someone else will be along shortly with advice to help both of us.

Yadiya, I had the same and I was in the UK, but at least the support tights worked wonders and prevented me from getting varicose veins. I would love to avoid this again but am concerned that support tights might be too warm for this climate. I am thinking cotton based socks/tights might be a reasonable compromise but hoping there is a wonder product for this type of issue.

Can you walk in the sea? I am from a hot country and a daily walk in the water ( up to your knees if you can manage) is the standard recommendation. Much pleasanter than tights and it works!

I live in the tropics and I found staying fit and walking lots helped - I didn't have any swelling or water retention and I had DS in September which is the hottest most humid time of year.

Walking definitely helps keep the circulation flowing so that might be an option (unless you're unable of course).

I'm 20 weeks with no.2 and trying to stay active as possible as I can see tiny little threadveins in my legs appearing that I don't want to turn into varicose veins! Bloody hard to get rid of after they appear so figure that staying active and keeping the blood pumping will help loads.

I have a swimming pool nearby so I will give that a go, and of course daily walks/exercise. I am reasonable healthy and slim but for genetic reasons I have appalling circulation so apart from that I will probably need to resort to support tights as well. I did read somewhere Epsom salt bath worked wonders. Anyone tried them?

Epsom salts is good but it the magnesium in it that reduces the fluid retention so you could just take magnesium as a supplement. You can also make a either a oil or body butter. I just take the tablets it's meant to help you sleep too.

Oh and webmd says it's safe for pregnant women.
