They're fine! they have already been cooked so indulge yourself!

suzywong · 23/02/2004 21:08

As long as you wipe the brine from your chin and do it with decorum it should be fine

go straight ahead as someone said they are already fully cooked

hercules · 24/02/2004 09:27

I would say that it would be wrong not to eat them as your body is obviously lacking the essential vitamins they contain hence your frantic desire for them.

Twinkie · 24/02/2004 09:43

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but Frankfurters that are cold can be contaminated with Listeria bacteria. You can eliminate the risk totally by cooking them until piping hot. Sorry....

bossykate · 24/02/2004 14:10

what craving could spicy hot pizzas from pizza hut and sausage and egg mcmuffins (yes it is that bad) possibly be satisfying, except for saturated fat and very poor quality meat...

Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - People most likely to get food poisoning from listeria can safely eat soft cheeses like feta, bleu or camembert as long as they are made with pasteurized milk and stored properly, the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday.
The agency's previous advice to pregnant women, people with weak immune systems and the elderly was to avoid soft cheeses altogether.
FDA officials said they made the change because new studies show soft cheese made from pasteurized milk is not at a high risk for listeria.
Mark McClellan, the FDA commissioner, said all consumers can protect their health by keeping ready-to-eat goods like cheese and deli meat cold and consuming them as soon as possible.
Listeria can cause flu-like symptoms and is sometimes deadly. In pregnant women, it can cause stillbirths without mothers realizing they are ill.
About 1,800 people get sick and 500 die each year from the bacteria, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About half those cases are preventible if consumers followed FDA recommendations, McClellan said.
The government lists sandwich meat, frankfurters, raw milk, smoked seafood and precooked shellfish as foods with the highest risk of carrying listeria. High-fat dairy items like cream are at a medium risk. Fruit, ice cream and raw seafood have the lowest risk.

I hope I am not being a bit dim but am I right in reading that sandwich meat (pre-cooked slices in sealed packs) can contain high levels of Listeria??? I eat SO much of this as its my ultimate craving at the moment and am working my way through 2 ten packs of Bernard Matthews Turkey slices every day!! I have in fact loads more at home but if its a high risk food I'll obviously feed the hubbie or dog with them - God I'm worried now.....

sibble · 24/02/2004 18:42

fortunately am craving fruit, minestrone soup and pitta filled with grated cheese, carrot, tomaotes and lettuce this time. A vast improvement on the McD's, salt and vinegar crisps and family size bars of dairy milk I craved and ate with DS.

littlerach · 24/02/2004 19:22

I am craving minestrone soup, too!! It has to be out of a packet and have grated cheese in. And white toast to dip in, mmmm!!!

fisil · 24/02/2004 21:35

I craved chocolate ice cream last time. Really hoping it comes back this time too.

sweetkitty · 24/02/2004 21:41

Frankfurters are no more of a risk than sandwich meat. You need a high level of Listeria to even cause illness never mind pose a risk to the baby. I must have tested 1000s of foods for Listeria over the years and have never found it at a level considered to be dangerous.

I'm an expert (!) on food safety and I'm still eating these kind of foods. I think you would go mad if you were to ban all foods supposed to be dangerous in pregnancy, apart from Creme Eggs, they are totally safe and wonderful especially if purchased in 6 packs.

The relief of being able to indulge in my Bernard matthews turket slices for breakfast this morning!! I am like a women posessed and can't leave any in the pack once its open - its even overtaken my craving for chocolate although i find both (not together) a glorious lunch!

milupa · 26/02/2004 01:55

When I was pg with my dd1 I loved cooking apples, with dd2 cooking apples too now it is sourcraut and pickled cucambers.

Toots · 27/02/2004 10:00

I fell asleep last night perving over the breakfast I'd like to wak up to: eggs, bacon, beans, mushrooms, fried bread...ooh...ooh, stop now. Actually had toast and muesli, but now dp's at work and dd's at chilminders...reading your posts has given me all sorts of disgusting ideas -feel like the man in the advert who goes out trying to score pot noodle. Have so far resisted McD's - but know it is only a matter of time.
