Baby First Aid/Essentials Kit

I will be having my baby in January and I have no intention of having to leave the house in terrible weather so I am stocking up on essentials and have turned my thoughts to first aid and random essentials.

Currently I have all the usual first aid kit supplies plasters etc so I am thinking of baby specific supplies and other things that may be useful for baby or me.What kind of things should I be thinking about? So far I have considered:

Thermometer
Nappy rash cream
Colic remedies

I work in a pharmacy and apart from what you've said, I would suggest saline nasal drops which can be used to unblock babies nose and sinuses(not really an emergency item but can ease breathing if their stuffy). Things like paracetamol suspension can't be used until 2 months of age so not really much else you can get to prepare, perhaps a first aid guide specific to babies and children? You can get booklets or look up an online guide (I think they do one on st.johns ambulance site)

Great, I am glad that I have most of it covered! Thank you for the tip about the nasal drops.

Infacol?

Nasal aspirator for sucking out snot.

The Red Cross free app for infant and child first aid is excellent. Your local NCT probably also organises training sessions with the Red Cross. We did 2 hours and it cost £45 for both of us, I don't think you need to be an NCT member.

Any other suggestions for things that may be useful to have?

If you are going to FF, make sure you have a way to heat water and sterilise bottles without power Smile Otherwise babies don't really need a lot of special stuff!

Other than that, standard emergency kit stuff (candles, matches, batteries, tinned food, gas cooker, extras of any medication you/DH needs) and a normal home 1st aid kit will be ample!
