Hi all

DP and I have been perusing prams online. These are our specs:

  • Good for tall people
  • Capable off road as will be used daily on tracks and woodland
  • suitable from birth

Does not have to be small or lightweight as we are young and strong and both have huge estate cars with massive boots. When at home pram will probably be kept in heated shed not house, so storage not an issue either.

Money wise this is something I'm prepared to spend money on as is essential to get it right (we live out in the sticks and I want to be able to walk to town etc daily and it will get a lot of use).

I am very keen on the Jane Slalom Pro

and also buying the lie-flat car seat

Your opinions please??

I haven't seen those ones but your spec sounds like mine and my DS is now 10 weeks old. I ended up getting this

It's a lay flat car seat/stroller combo - excellent for tall people and I walk my dog off road with it. I got it at mothercare and they gave me the car seat for free. I didn't get the carry cot because the car seat lays flat. Only downside I've found is the car seat is very heavy, but once it's on the stroller it's brilliant.

It's also an isofix seat so (once you have the base) just clips into the car very easily without having to use the seatbelt.

Im really pleased with it.

I have a Jane rider with a matrix light car seat and I love it. Its perfect for off road (slalom may not be as good as I think it has air tyres whereas the rider and trider have foam filled tyres).

The car seat really is the best bit it can go flat in the car or like a car seat, it means baby never gets disturbed being lifted from car seat to carrycot because it's both

It did my DD until she was over a year!

It's a bit heavier than a normal car seat but the only place I carried it was in and out of the car.

Any qs just ask!

Thanks for asking this moobaloo. I've been looking online at the Jane travel systems too so very interested to hear the feedback.

Not sure about the ones you mention but I had a similar spec and I got the uppababy vista and love it, especially its height

dizhin79 · 02/11/2013 16:48

making place as that's basically our spec requirements too!

I had the jane slalom pro . It was fab and we used it with both dcs and it still looks good! It was fab off road and I was even able to push it through snow. We didn't have the flat car seat , but bought the carrycot instead, however friends who had the flat car seat loved it and their dcs always looked comfy.

Possibly even better than the Slalom pro??

I had the jane slalom pro with dc1 and didn't get on with it tbh. Fine as a pram with car seat (though she outgrew it fast), but when we moved to seat configuration I found that she slipped down in the seat until she hit the bottom strap which looked v uncomfortable. I had to keep hoiking her up - The design is 'kitchen chair' like as opposed to 'bucket'-like if that makes any sense! When pregnant with dc2 we got a Phil and teds which was great even as a single pushchair and will do for dc3 too, due in feb. Wish I'd just saved myself the money and bought one first time round.

RaspberrysAndIcecream · 02/11/2013 21:24

Slight high jack whereisthewitch but I have just brought the Jane rider with matrix car seat for our first dc due in march. We are really pleased with our choice!!

I'm a nanny op and the best pushchairs for a tall child that can do off road would, in my opinion, be the Phil and Teds or a mountain buggy jungle. (I've been given a ph and ted by my boss - so we have the best of both worlds!!) :-)

I hated my Jane Slalom Pro. The worst thing was the tyres. Must have had about a dozen new inner tubes in 5 years. Loved the car seat though!

stargirl1701 · 02/11/2013 21:30

Stokke Xplory?

NothingMoreScaryThanAHairy · 02/11/2013 21:34

I had a Jane slalom when they first came out over 8 years ago (we bought in Spain so before they came to uk). I have had loads of prams since various doubles etc but my slalom was my absolute favourite ...Oddly enough DH was saying the same a couple of days ago. I sold it 3 dd's later for £150 not bad after 6 years and many flights!

meala · 02/11/2013 21:37

I had a Jane Slalom (not pro) with the matrix car seat and loved it! It was used for 2DC and still is fab. I had no issues with tyres or inner tubes at all and we did quite a lot of walking off road. The lie flat car seat wasn't used at all for DC2 though as I needed space for 2 car seats in the back and it was too tight to get it in then.

alice93 · 02/11/2013 21:38

I used this Jane pushchair whilst I was an aupair, and for my own baby we have bought a Concord which is like a sister company (but baby isn't born yet!)
The Jane was great, very stable and strong, I was an aupair in the French Alps, I would drag this through snow - difficult but can be done! It was a great pushchair. I would recommend it 100%.

The lie flat car seat is great as well - again used it as an aupair and shall use it for my own. The only downside is that it's quite heavy! I'm going to have to be carrying the baby up and down stairs with it and I'm quite nervous about this!! But I'll also be using it as a temporary moses basket as its very portable.

mistlethrush · 02/11/2013 21:40

I was looking at the Jane and ended up with a Mountain Buggy urban instead. Didn't regret it at all - DS was moved from his bucket car seat into the pram and out- but didn't seem to bother him. Perfect for dog walking - and nothing to get stuck up with mud and grass when pushing - went through and over anything it was pointed at.
