high blood pressure - what next?

Hello,
I'm 32weeks and have had high bp since 28 weeks. No protein in urine, had blood tests for organ function etc (re PE) which came back ok but highest bp yet today so I've had more blood tests.
MW has said that if blood tests are fine she wants to see me again on Sunday.
Anyone got any ideas about what might happen next if it is 'just' high blood pressure?
If there has been no protein so far, is it likely that pre eclamsia could develop now?
Thanks.

I had high BP. It didn't progress into anything else, though I did have to stay in hospital for a week after DS was born do they could monitor it.

Thanks fifi was your bp up for a long time before labour and all the time you were in afterwards?

It all depends on how high it is, from memory I think it's roughly the following for simple high BP with no protein in urine...

Over 140/90 they'll monitor and should refer you to consultant and may treat
Over 150/100 they'll normally treat with labetalol or methyldopa and if it doesn't come down possibly suggest early induction
Over 160/110 they'll treat and will want to induce you early (37 weeks) if it doesn't come down

The NICE guidelines are worth a read guidance.nice.org.uk/CG107

Might worth investing in a home BP monitor (the basic OMRON from amazon is £18 and clinically validated) so you can monitor it at home. Not a bad thing to have in your medicine cupboard anyway.

I had high bp towards the end of first pregnancy which they just monitored closely and induced at 39+2 with labetalol (sp?).

It meant they monitored more closely second pregnancy.

I agree with lady- might be worth getting a machine to put your own mind at ease.

To reassure yourself make sure that you're familiar with symptoms to look out for and if you don't feel that you're being monitored closely enough ask for visits from community mw team to check it more frequently. Mine were great with this.

I had high bp but it didn't become pre-eclampsia. Had a couple of very short hospital stays one was staying in a day after dd was born to monitor bp but it was fine. Good luck OP

Thanks,
it's been slowly creeping but is at 150/98 at the moment.
MW are excellent re monitoring, I just can't understand why this has happened.
This is my third dc and only had high bp once before at the very, very end of my last pregnancy and had far more 'stress' during preg 1 but pb was fine.
It's hard to know when to panic (i.e. blury vision - panic or blame it on the contact lenses!) and when to just relax.
Thanks for advice. Really, really don't want a hospital visit as dh is working away and as I say, I have two dc under 4 to look after.

You shouldn't need to be admitted unless it heads over 160/110...that's the NICE position... Having high BP does not mean it will progress to pre-eclampsia so try not to get too stressed. There is nothing you've done to cause it or you could have done to prevent it. Just keep getting monitored and if you do get any PE symptoms ring up triage to be safe.
