Sweep and thrush

Hi ladies,

TMI alert, I'm pretty embarrassed actually, but the past few days I have had irritation down below I'm 39+5 so I thought it was just a combination due to baby's head being down and increased discharge, yesterday I realised it was thrush and have now started the treatment to get rid of it, I hear it's pretty common in pregnancy?

Anyway, more to the point, I have midwife tomorrow and have arranged to get a sweep which I really do want, does anyone know if my thrush although being now treated will prevent her from doing this?

Thanks for your replies Smile

Hi OP,
I had a sweep done when I was pregnant with my first and had thrush and didn't realise until the doctor pointed out that it was so painful because of this. They requested gas and air for my next sweep ( I was in hospital at the time).Saying that, I think I did have thrush fairly badly and wasn't on treatment either. It was also my first baby so didn't know what a sweep involved so fear could of added to the pain. But the doctor did say it was painful due to the thrush.
I genuinely don't want to scare you, just to warn you it may be more uncomfortable than normal sweeps.
Having thrush should not stop you having a sweep though I don't think.
good luck

Thanks for your reply,Smile

Yes I am pretty tender down below, so I am mentally preparing myself for it as I know it will no doubt be more painful than normally, (I've had a couple before) I was pretty glad I plucked up the courage to get a mirror and have a look down there, it was starting to really worry me, hopefully it clears up quickly!

I will mention to her tomorrow, I really stil want to go ahead with the sweep I hope she does also x

If you don't mind me asking did your sweep work?
Thanks

unfortunately it didn't work for me but ds was extremely stubborn and it took 3 days of induction pessaries to get him out in the end.
On DD though I had a mild sweep/internal (after having a pessary inserted the day before) and my waters broke straight after so there is hope :)

Sarah seems your babies love being inside so much! My DS first sweep didn't work but she did say my cervix wasn't ready, I then had a second sweep one week later and went in to labour the day after, I suppose it's just if your ready isn't it, pushes you in the right direction!

This pregnancy I've lost the plug and had the show also 2 false starts Hmm so hopefully, HOPEFULLY my cervix is ready just for the little push!

Thanks very much! Smile

Was not sore, or even uncomfortable Smile I'm 2-3cm dilated so hopefully that gave me a push in the right direction!
