Is anyone else having a serious problem finding clothes, with the exception of H&M no shops have in store clothes, all online and I don't particularly want to shop online. However needs must and been looking all the jeans seem to be skinny jeans or leggings, where are normal trousers gone!! Having a rant as getting stressed out, also a lot of places don't go above a size 18, so being a 20 is adding extra difficulty.

I found exactly the same thing! I was really shocked to find such poor choice on the high street. Only really found Mothercare and New Look any good online, not sure if that's much help.

Good luck and please share if you find anywhere else - I will!

asos, new look, isabella oliver or seraphine (pricey), h&m, topshop.
yes pretty much all online and there's a lot of sh*te out there and most of it has horizontal stripes!

luxemburgerli · 29/10/2013 13:31

I am having similar problems in Switzerland. C&A do some ok stuff (although very dark and drab), but I guess that doesn't help you much in the UK.

Am resigned to looking ridiculous in my husband's cast off t-shirts for the next few months.

flowerpotgirl12 · 29/10/2013 14:03

I looked on asos and topshop and neither had anything above a size 18. not looked at isabelle oliver or seraphine but don't really want to spend a fortune. H&M is so far the only decent place I've found. I agree all leggings and stripes.

Gap have some stuff online but no idea on the sizes
I'm completely amazed that M&S don't do maternity wear

Caip · 29/10/2013 14:07

do you think this would work as a maternity dress? I'm only 16 weeks so not enormous yet

next are ok, i got my favourite pair of boot leg jeans online, and the sizing is quite generous. Coming into winter i am alternating between my next bootleg jeans and new look black skinnies, and wearing them with jersey tshirts / long sleeve tops and regular, non maternity cardigans. or nice oversized non maternity jumpers (that seem to fit over my 36week bump) and a nice scarf.

It is annoying that most high street shops don't carry maternity in their stores. Some larger stores will have a small concession. Where do you live?

In Milton Keynes central shopping central Top Shop, Debenhams, H&M & Mothercare all sell maternity wear in the shop. Although I'm not sure what sizes they go up to.

Asos does free delivery and free returns - so it isn't too big a deal if you order loads and return loads. New Look and Next both do free click and collect in store - and free returns in store so you won't have to pay delivery charges.

Serpahine is sold in some John Lewis stores as well - but it is pretty pricey. But I shopped from their website and had abso-bloody-lutely fantastic customer service so although they are pricey I would highly recommend them!

Ebay is great for second hand stuff and can get some Serpahine/Isabella Oliver stuff for much cheaper than new.

You may find you can wear very stretchy fabrics well into the pregnancy even if they are non maternity - esp wrap style dresses and tops or empire waist style items. Hope this helps!

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 14:14

Caip I think that dress would be fine for early stages of pregnancy and also post pregnancy when you aren't back into your normal clothes.

Another tip with buying maternity wear I would say is to buy as many things that are good for nursing as well (if you are planning to nurse that is!) I wished I would have thought of this sooner and bought more nursing appropriate items rather than buying lots of maternity stuff and now having to buy lots of nursing stuff.

rachyconks · 29/10/2013 14:19

I'm in NI and every new look & h&m here has maternity in store.

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 14:34

Way to rub it in rachyconks Grin

Quodlibet · 29/10/2013 16:35

WHAT IS WITH THE FUCKING STRIPES!!!???

Sorry, personal bugbear, but why on earth do ALL the maternity retailers think we ALL want to wear the same bloody stripey uniform?

Either that or it's all so bland and mumsy. I may have to get used to having changed shape but I don't want to have to dress like an entirely different person on top of that.

MrsPatMustard · 29/10/2013 16:40

Finding maternity clothes in the High Street is a nightmare. Recently stumbled across a small rack of Red Herring maternity stuff in my local Debenhams - which was a pleasant surprise. Not a massive amount of choice but nice cut/colours.

Lots of NCT groups do nearly-new sales, which are worth keeping an eye on.

quodlibet totally with you on the stripes. Just what I really need when I'm looking my fattest - horizontal stripes. Do these people know nothing about styling?

Rockchick1984 · 29/10/2013 17:56

I barely bought any maternity clothes with DS - I had a lot of empire line tea dresses in floaty fabric. As the bump got big, I wore them with leggings or jeggings so they didn't seem too short. Also maxi dresses are fab!

Primark tshirts are plenty long enough to last most of pregnancy, buy a size or 2 bigger and they should last til baby arrives.

Only thing I really bought specifically was maternity jeans. H&M are fab, and Next are ok but need to try on as I was size 10 pre-pregnancy, gained nearly 5 stone, and my Next size 8 maternity jeans still fit me when I was in labour Grin

Bootoyou2 · 29/10/2013 18:01

Jojo maman bebe have some stuff in store. Had some great linen trousers from them

Anothermrssmith · 29/10/2013 23:06

New look is worth a look, especially the bigger stores. Not usually a massive range but I managed to get a few decent tops and the only place i've seen maternity in store. I'm between an 18 and a 20 as well and found the new look 18 tops fit me fine. Try Evans as well,I've always found their stuff big (usually go down a size in there) so my normal size has plenty of bump room.

Stevie77 · 30/10/2013 09:24

I saw maternity skinnies in Primark this weekend, however, they are probably more suited to the end of pregnancy. They only had a stretchy waistband so that part was
h-u-g-e!

Cariad007 · 30/10/2013 10:38

H&M seem to be one of the few places that have maternity clothes in store. I was there a couple of weeks ago and although they had some nice stuff I was kind of between sizes. I've ordered some jeans from Asos which are supposed to arrive today so will see what they're like. I'm 24+5 and can still fit into most of my regular clothes apart from my skinny jeans and anything with a defined waistband, but I'll hit trimester 3 in a few weeks time and I'm sure I'll need proper maternity stuff then!

Yankeedoodlenic · 30/10/2013 11:15

I know this is online but I've just seen this fab offer & thought I should share. It is a lovely Seraphine dress reduced to only £39!! Snap it up ladies - esp if you are in the early stages now as it will be lovely for summer!

Katylou3684 · 30/10/2013 11:31

The packs of string vest tops that you can get at new look online are really comfortable, I've been living in them with leggings and long cardi's! x

Yankeedoodlenic · 30/10/2013 11:49

Ooo also, H&M is doing a thing where you can trade in a tesco bag of clothes and get a voucher for £5 off. I don't know what the Ts & Cs are but I'm going to give it a go today and then buy a few more nursing vest tops from them.
