....about being pg.

I have loved and agreed with all the grumpy/ragey/angry pregnant ladies threads. And joined in with my own thoughts on being pregnant and hormonal and uncomfortable and so on. But there are some nice things about being upduffed I think, and it's nice to remember them sometimes too.

So here are my top 3 things I enjoy about being pregnant.

  1. The shopping. Oh dear lord the shopping. I've had to have all new clothes obviously from underwear up! Including new boots as the ones I was going to wear this winter I can't possibly bend down and get on. Then there is baby shopping. Yummy, tiny little newborn clothes. Sweet little vests and babygro's. Soft, cuddly blankets. And the Great Pram Debate. Hours I have spent researching online. . Think the staff in Kiddicare think I am odd, and the new Mothercare outlet that has just opened 3 miles from me are on first name terms with me and bump.

And as I have a 9yo dd and this baby is a boy we have had to start all over again! Yay!

  1. The attention. From family and friends. And strangers. Love it when someone asks me how I am! I really do. And they can touch my bump if they want to as long as they give me a lot of fuss too!
  1. Getting out of things you don't want to do. Like my friend moved who moved house over the weekend. Said friend expected everyone she knows to 'rally around' and help her move. She's 40 years old and has known she was moving for weeks. I moved myself many years ago 9 months pregnant but really didn't fancy doing her packing and unpacking for her. So just said no, bump is too big to be useful but if you get stuck for something to eat pop down and I'll make you a sandwhich or something. Sorted!

So there are some crap things about being pregnant (and I have found this time harder than last) but also some lovely things too!

The movements. Yes it does get uncomfortable at times but it is truly amazing feeling your baby move.

TwoTearsInABucket · 29/10/2013 13:53

I love feeling the movements too. This dc3 is like sleeping next to a bag of cats according to DH.
Having a belly for a reason and not having to hold it in.
Being able to wear mahoosive comfy pants. Yeah baby!

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 14:19

I feel so lucky as I've had a really easy pregnancy and I think I'm one of those annoying people that some pregnant women hate.

But I have to agree - my favourite thing is the generosity that everyone has shown and the genuine happiness people seem to feel for you. Even work colleagues and acquaintances can't wait to find out how I am doing and are buying me gifts. Plus it is little things like people not even letting me carry a gift bag out to the car - they insist on helping!

I did have a bit of a moan then when at 7 months pregnant and no one on the underground offered me a seat! Angry but I had a nice LOUD rant about it once I did get a seat and definitely saw some blushes from people around me. I guess most people are just in their own little world & hadn't even noticed!

PS just because I smile and look well all the time doesn't mean I'm not uncomfortable like other preggos because I certainly am!

BummyMummy77 · 29/10/2013 14:27

Something just came out of my boob!!! I think this is the most excited I've been all pregnancy. Grin

Who'd have thought colostrum could be so exciting?!

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 14:33

Ha, Bummy - how many weeks are you?

I had my first leakage last week... my husband pointed at my grey top and said "Uhhhhhh!" I've put those disposable breast pads into my bra each day though - although it sort of feels like I'm wasting them as it is barely anything at the moment!

BummyMummy77 · 29/10/2013 14:38

39 tomorrow. Boobies are leaking woohoo!!

How about you?

Husband is very excited, I just text him lol.

Breast pads? We're proper Mummies now.

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 14:44

I'm 34+4 and already leaking! Only downside is I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding on Saturday and was planning on going bra less as the dress is a bit tricky and didn't want to invest in a new bra specially for it... so thinking I'll have to stick some pads directly in my dress. :-) GLAMOROUS!

I hate to brag (not really I've been waiting to brag) but I'm fitting into a size 12 Coast dress that isn't even a maternity one (it is a very stretchy maxi dress but still!) Wondering how the other bridesmaids feel knowing that a nearly 8 month pregnant woman is wearing the same size dress as them. Grin

TheSlug · 29/10/2013 14:48

My boobs have been leaking since 20 weeks :( (31 weeks now!) it does get less exciting...

TheSlug · 29/10/2013 14:50

Sorry back to the nice things! I LOVE my new body, love my bump and my shape. I love everyone wanting to touch my tummy, I love the movement inside me and I love having so much to look forward to! Great thread OP thanks! X

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 14:53

There you go Slug! Finding the positives. I do love rubbing my tummy and feeling baby move. It is amazing!!

I've heard stretch mark cream/oil etc doesn't really help but I don't care because I really enjoy just sitting there watching telly with only a bra on and rubbing my tummy.

Being pregnant is such an amazing thing really!

Thingymajigs · 29/10/2013 14:55

Ooh good idea. Smile

Not having to clean the litter trays. (I still do because the house would stink but massively reduced tray duties anyway.)
Watching DP's excitement about his first child and seeing how protective he can be over me.
Ds2 (10 yo) is so excited about being a big brother that it melts my heart. He is also protective with a great connection to this baby. He loves feeling the baby move and says he can't wait until he is born.
Didn't have to lift much during recent house move.
Bigger, fuller boobs. Grin
My acne has disappeared.
I only need to wash my hair once a week and barely need to shave my legs and underarms.
Slightly less food guilt.
People are very nice to pregnant women. I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

froubylou · 29/10/2013 15:02

Loving all these. And the excitement that a bit of boob leakage can bring is soooo true lol.

I forgot having an afternoon snooze as well. Just cos you can!

And love the movement most of all. My dp gets up for work at 5am. Baby usually has a good wiggle around when the alarm goes off. There is nothing more lovely or intimate than putting DPs hand in the right place for him to feel a good wiggle.

And speaking of intimate anyone else rediscovered 'making out'? DTD has been off the menu for a while now just because I'm a worrywart. But we have reverted to lots and lots of foreplay and snogging lol. And to be honest the orgasms are bloody fabulous!

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 15:08

Thingymajigs - I totally forgot to mention the amazing skin & I've found the same w/my hair. I can easily go 3-4 days w/o washing and it still looks fine! Never been able to do that before. I had some maternity shots done & told my friend who was photoshopping them for me "I look too airbrushed" she showed me the unedited version and she'd barely done a thing... it was just my great preggo skin!!

Froubylou way to bring the convo to a more adult level... from boob leaks to foreplay in a single leap!

BummyMummy77 · 29/10/2013 15:09

Dh being protective is lovely isn't it?

Mine is the most laid back guy normally but when a car nearly reversed into me the other day he went radio rentals.

He was screaming nose to nose at the guy and while I know this is very wrong it felt very nice. (I may have mumbled something like "you should have punched him" lol).

I like not having to clean up dog poop or throw up too. I've been a bit of a fibber about toxoplasmosis haha.

bebopanddoowop · 29/10/2013 15:23

Ooh good idea for a thread. I'm only 16wks and have done plenty of grumbling.. However.. I love my new big boobs. Infact I'm more obsessed than DH is. & I love how over emotional we both are about the fact there's a real life creature in my belly! Everyday at least one of us wells up out of nowhere!

WhisperMen · 29/10/2013 15:35

I like watching my belly wriggle around when peanut is getting comfy

thanks to morning sickness/food aversions I have actually lost weight and people keep telling me I look so slim, if you ignore the beachball up my top Grin

i like how excited people get when I tell them my due date. Everyone thinks a christmas time baby is wonderful. One old lady even gave me £5 to buy something cute with.

I love that look you get/give other pregnant ladies even if you don't know them. It feels like being part of a secret club.

I love the way at the moment I don't have to share my little peanut with anybody. I am solely responsible for it's care. I love looking in the mirror and seeing my belly and thinking that I am doing the greatest thing a woman can do with her life.

BummyMummy77 · 29/10/2013 15:35

Oh another cool thing, for the last 15 years I've had awful chloasma (where your skin goes dark brown in patches, mostly on the face) and in the last 2 years, acne. Turns out I'm allergic to the sun. :(

Anyway, since I've got pregnant ALL the chloasma has completely gone and the acne has cleared up. Bizarre as chloasma is called 'the mask of pregnancy'.

Hubb · 29/10/2013 15:37

Being on maternity leave is GREAT, especially as I don't think I'm going back :)

Love it when people let me jump the toilet queue when they see the bump.

Enjoying not having periods..!

Yankeedoodlenic · 29/10/2013 15:37

Uh oh bebop - already grumbling at 16 weeks!! Wait until your belly gets HUGE!

Whisper I love the idea that at the minute baby is all yours! That is so true!! You don't have to share him with anyone - even DP/DH. I feel so lucky every day that I get to carry this little guy around in me and I get to feel him move and wriggle.

This thread has been particularly helpful today as usually about this time at work I start to get fed up and uncomfortable (due to rib pain on the right side) so this is helping to keep me positive. I'm going to try to make it until 5pm today... but 4:30 is probably more likely. HEY, I guess that is another bonus... I have legitimate reasons to leave work a bit early.

DaleyBump · 29/10/2013 17:33

I love my stretch marks. I really, really do. It's a permanent mark that I've actually made and carried a person. It really irritates me when my family won't stop buying me cream "to get rid of them" but now I just say "oh, no thanks" and hand it back Grin

bebopanddoowop · 29/10/2013 19:50

Yankee - I know! I don't think pregnancy suits me I've been ill non stop since week 7, bedbound for about 5 weeks so I allow myself a grumble!

Daley - that's lovely! I use this 'natural' stuff my mum gave me just cos it smells delicious and I like stroking my belly and talking to it so any excuse!

I love seeing other people maternal side come out when you didn't know it was there til they're talking to you about baby Smile

TheSlug · 30/10/2013 22:41

After reading your posts I have to agree with most of you! Pregnancy is amazing and I'm loving every minute. Especially agree with being able to keep this baby all to myself, when baby pops out I'll have to share with everyone lol! I love rubbing moisturiser into my tummy, feels like little part of my day just for me and my baby Smile

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/10/2013 22:55

Im loving being PG. The nausea was crap and my bump aches, but after a month of testing hell, Im just so happy to sit back, feel her kick and look forward to meeting my second gorgeous girl.

TobyLerone · 31/10/2013 06:42

I'm loving it too.

This has been my easiest pregnancy by a mile (although there has still been a fair bit of moaning about nausea/heartburn/SPD/insomnia/generally being a whale) and I kind of don't want it to end.

I love the movements, especially when I can see them from outside.

Yy the baby being "all mine".

I love how excited DH is (it's his first -- and only!). And how much he loves me being pregnant.

We haven't done much shopping yet, although we probably should now there's only a couple of months to go. And baby clothes are CUTE!

I love being able to eat what I want.
