37 weeks and hiccuping baby!!

Hi everyone, hope u all survived the weather! Wondering what other mums have to say on this subject.... I'm 37 weeks pregnant and for last 2 weeks I'd say, my baby has been hiccuping more and more.... Started off like once every couple days and increased to like yesterday maybe 5 or 6 times....... I called midwife today for advice and she said it was ok and to not read things on internet! I'd rather be cautious than just ignore things though..... To be honest I don't like the hiccup sensation, it feels weird... What are others experiences in this? When should I worry? If at all do u think? Thanks everyone!

My first hiccuped almost constantly for about 10weeks (possibly a slight exaggeration but it was a lot!!) and this one probably does it at least once a day, truly never struck me to worry about it and I don't think you need to either

No need to worry! Its where the baby is practicing swallowing. Thats what my midwife told me.

It is a strange sensation but nothing to worry about.

My baby hiccuped all the tip...she's 15 days old now...still hiccuping!

Mine did it for weeks and weeks everyday and because I didn't have any sickness I always joked that I would have a sicky baby! She was the sickyest baby I've ever known lol up until about 7 months! Hope this isn't the case for you! X

Mine hiccuped a lot - sometimes six times a day, and it only really decreased right before he was born. I had a scan at 34 weeks (not related to hiccuping!), but I was reassured that there was no cord problem. He was just hiccupy.

At two and a half weeks old, he still gets frequent hiccups, and looks utterly confused by them.

My DD hiccuped all the time and then continued to do so for a few months after she was born!

It was impossible to balance my book on pregnant belly as DS had such enormous hiccups. All. The. Time!

Absolutely nothing to worry about, although they do feel a bit wierd. Once DS was born I can't really remember him hiccuping much, so he obviously didn't.

Embrace the wierd, it won't last long Grin

I've been worried about this too after reading horror stories online. I've taken every opportunity to ask different midwives their opinions and every one has said it's a good sign. I've been monitored for other things and baby seems happy in there! My first baby never had hiccups so this has been a different experience!! Out if interest, those with hiccuppy babies, did they have colic or trapped wind?

I'm 38+1 and I noticed an increase in hiccups from last week as well! I've read its a good sign too.

Thanks everyone!! You have really helped reassure me, I'm totally not a worrier -and usually I'm the last to seek medical advice on things but when it comes to my baby I feel so protective and I owe her to do rite and be responsible as I Have made this decision to bring her into th world!! Being preggers is tough!

My Ds who is now 4 hiccuped all the time when I was pg with him. He was/is fine and didn't struggle with trapped wind or colic. I didn't realise it was something to potentially worry about.

Mine hiccups all the time - it never crossed my mind to ask the midwife or google it!

My mum has always said that I was very hiccupy baby though so I guess I have grown up thinking it was normal!

I thought I was strange that DD1 didn't hiccup at all to be honest.....

DS had colic for four months. However, the birth was very stressful: forceps birth, DS suffered shoulder distocia and had a weird shaped head for the first year - much more likely to be a cause of colic than the hiccuping, imho.

DC1 hiccupped almost constantly in utero. I thought it was funny. He is still very hiccupy now!

Oh, and no, he certainly never suffered from colic or trapped wind..... he was very easy on that score.

My LO had hiccups all the time, used to drive me mad when I was trying to sleep!

She also had hiccups a lot when she was little, and very cutely, she gets hiccups now if we make her laugh too much :)

Mine last one always used to get hiccups when I was trying to sleep. It is good for them as it helps their diaphragm muscle get stronger to help them breath once they are born.

Ds was hiccupy and once he engaged i could feel it cough down there. Now he's 4week's old and still hiccupy. in fact in the womb I could feel him wriggling and kicking when he had them and getting annoyed, and he does that now he's out bless him Grin
