Can anyone let me know what an induction is like and whether it worked or not??? I am only going to be allowed 1 shot and if that doesnt work it would be a c section!!........HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I had a good induction experience. dd was about 5 days overdue and due to gestational diabetes I was induced. As I was already 3cms dilated I didnt need the prostin gel and they broke my waters instead and I had a drip to speed up contractions. I had a tens machine, gas and air and one injection of diamorphine (like pethidine) and dd was born within 8 hours. I had no interventions like forceps, ventouse, etc and I didnt think the birthing process was too bad at all. The stitches on the other hand were a bother for quite some time after dd was born but that is another story

I hope I am not being nosey, but what re the problems with your baby?
If they realy think baby is better out than in, then why are the "risking" allowing you to go to 40 weeks? Shouldn't they be hauling baby out right now?
If I couldn't get satisfactory answers to these questions, I would wait to go into natural labour.

p.s. sorry about typos!

hi kdinas, the reason for being induced is because baby is measuring small and although its growing, its not growing enough to make it register on the centile chart - SO.....they recommend induction at due date because if left to go overdue the cord can start to deteriorate and not provide enough for the baby. So I am trying to get pros and cons about it before deciding what to do.

IMO focus should be on welfare of mum AND baby. Birth is not an end, it is only the begin! Why why take unnecessary risks?

any chance your midwife could give you a couple of sweeps or that you could have loads of sex to try and get things going naturally?

That is a dilemma, and difficult to decide then.
I myself have always had bad experiences with inductions, and they never work for me. So my answer would be biased based on that.
If for you there is specifically a problem with the umbilical cord, you should probably go ahead with the induction, but could you try to delay it a week? I wold ask for scans to check the baby is not having problems.
If there are serious problems, I would ask why they are not giving me a c-section earlier, for the sake of the baby.
