Hi, I'd like to know if anyone managed to get through most of their pregnancy without wearing maternity clothes. I'm kind of thinking jeans/tops in larger sizes... Is this possible? Really want to not spend lots on mat clothes (which seem to be miles pricier than "normal" clothes).

Within pea in the pod is a brand called motherhood which has a website I think. I bought 3 pairs of trousers from them all under belly, and a few tops. I think it has been really easy to be pregnant over winter as you can just layer. The motherhood sizes are quite generous. I was H&M size 10 before, most of the smalls drowned me at 23 weeks but fit me perfectly now at 35wks and have fitted reasonably from about 28wks. I am still carrying reasonably small (so everybody keeps telling me).

I tried to get away without buying maternity clothes but had to buy bigger sizes any way, which looked odd (crotch too low or skirts lop sided) so got pair of strechy maternity trousers from H&M which saw me through loads - plain black so could wear as basics for work but also could dress up + not so obviously maternity so able to wear for a bout a month afterwards. Kept wearing lycra Ts until trendy bump showingness became unsightly crop top then got good big tunics from tescos - the sort that are scrunhced up are good because they "open out".

After spending yesterday sitting at my desk with my trousers undone I have a pair of Next maternity trousers on today that keep falling down despite a safety pin! I cannot seem to win at the moment!

hi, i managed pretty much the whole of my pregnancy with very few matrenity clothes. I pick up a couple of tops in the DP's sale. It wasn't bump that i had problems hiding it was bust!!! so very early on i bought size 18 tops (i'm normally a 12/14) which lasted until 36weeks when my baby was born. I then bought one pair of maternity jeans from mothercare (over the bump type) at about 28weeks and wished i'd done it sooner!!! they were so comfy and supportive. Other than those jeans i just worn drawstring baggy linen trousers and worn dresses.
Just to add though i managed to keep my pregancy from people at work until i was about 24weeks, partly because the bump was small and partly because i lost 1.5 stones through morning sickness so replaced fat with baby!!!!

Boy, could've i have done with this thread a few weeks ago

Now at 20+4 i am starting to wear maternity clothes. Have fine up until now with majority of my usual clothes - bought 1 pair of jeans in a bigger size but now they are too small - also got to stage where tops were riding up over my bump so looked odd anyway.

Following a shopping trip to Hennes on saturday i bought - 2 skirts (quite short with pleated front), 1 tunic style shirt, 1 smart black wrap around top, 2 stretchy vesty tops (camisoles) and a long sleeved pink top - All came to about £80 i think. Also got nice under bump jeans, on bump combats (would've preferred under bump but don't do) and another multipack of tops from Next.

I intend to be completly sorted now - am refusing to buy any more maternity clothes and think i'll have plenty to see me through the next 19 weeks and 3 days (this baby WILL NOT b late )

This thread is great for inspiration - thanks everyone! I have just bought a pair of size`14 jeans (usually a 10-12) but they fall down over hips still. Will be OK in a while though.
I have got some Hennes maternity cloths from last time. Love the idea of the Ghost dress - is Ghost expensive? (Have their perfume and love it normally - LOATHE it now as feel sick still). I'm quite near West Norwood, Aloha. Am due Sept 5th so will need nice breezy dress for summer. Thanks again D

East 70% off sale meant I had smart clothes (and they were a size 10! - very stretchy!

stretchy lace-up jeans

all my maternity clothes were second hand from charity shops and NCT sales - they're hardly worn so you might as well save yourself the money

Did manage with laceup (stretchy) jeans til nearly the end.

if stuff isn't stretch it just hangs and you look and feel even huger

just went to Hennes and bought a few sizes bigger as the pregnancy went on. I was very lucky got off lightly. I am still wearing the jeans I bought when I was 6 months pregnant. They were a size up from my normal size but I like the bagginess now and they were a great cut.

It depends ninja. I got out my stuff from DS and all the tops were really pilled and rubbed up across the front from rubbing against my desk!
