Did anyone experience calm before the storm that is labour?

I'm 38+5 today and have had pretty much every sign impending labour could throw at me over the last two weeks....aside from my waters going and actual regular contractions.
Today though, apart from some strongish intermittent period-like pains, I've had nothing.
Preggo rage has left me and I feel calm and comfy for the first time in ages. So much so, the housework has been done in leisurely bits and bats (rather than mad woman nesting), I'm not getting frustrated with hubby if he's not mind reading the things I want doing (I don't want him to do anything, Which is rare) and am actually finding myself wanting to cook for my family and fetch them treats and blankets and watch family films that I'd usually tolerate at best.
It's almost as if I'm being told that this is going to be our last Sunday as a 4 and to enjoy every second.
Not one of them has annoyed me today, which while pregnant, is totally unheard of!
I'm just so calm and content and comfy. It's wonderful!
Even the heartburn has buggered off for a bit!

Just wondered if anybody else had experienced anything like this before labour?

So strange, its like you read my mind and wrote this word for word in the way I was thinking it, so yes I completely agree!
I feel really peaceful when I could usually commit a violent murder with no remorse if someone leaves a wet towel on the floor.

Rhibeetee · 27/10/2013 14:27

It's so strange! Not that I'm complaining.
It would be interesting to hear that somebody felt the same and went into labour shortly after....

I swear my husband must have drugged me or something.

Glad someone else is feeling this nice too. Maybe we're in tune with the weather and having our own calm before nature chucks this impending storm at us! Lol

Please keep me updated, I need to hear of a baby being born to remind me I am having a baby not just an evil, huge, ill blob :)

Rhibeetee · 27/10/2013 14:43

I've felt like that too....
Most days I wonder if I'll actually like him when he comes out!
I get the feeling it's kind of normal though.
I'll keep you up to date :)
When are you due?

Rhibeetee · 27/10/2013 14:49

Marking place. This morning I spent two hours with DS1 making a dreadful craft thing that he intercepted from the charity shop/regifting bag and...ENJOYED IT.

With my second dd I was like this well into labour. first time I think I was scared of the unknown but I felt really calm before and during labour with dd2.

Frecklesandspecs · 27/10/2013 17:42

....and actually I'm feeling very calm today too because I'm hoping the storm Will get this baby out.

Rhibeetee · 27/10/2013 17:57

I'm bouncing on the birthing ball...still calm...just made dophinoise potatoes (why?)...not really hungry for them!

This time last year, I was sat by my Grandmas hospital bed saying goodbye. I'm hoping that she's looking down and will work some magic so we can say hello to a new little boy tomorrow on the anniversary of her passing.

Knowing my Grandma, she's probably behind this storm ;)

Ummmm now I feel tearful rather than calm, I am sure your grandma will be guarding over you and your new baby

Rhibeetee · 27/10/2013 18:07

Awwwh, don't be tearful (hugs).... She was lovely and feisty and wonderful.
She always wanted to call her son Sebastian but my Grandad would never let her, so we've picked it in her memory.
She was a wonderful Grandma, not a conventional one but certainly a pea out of my pod.
I find it hard to be sad because I always feel like she's near. She'll get a stern telling off if she doesn't assist tonight though lol.
I sound like a crazy woman!

Oooo, some excitement! The dog is going crazy, the neighbours are setting off fireworks. Where's my rage when it would be useful?!

Rhibeetee i felt like this over a week ago and im now 39+1 and still pregnant lol so im not sure if theirs truth in it

Jorior · 27/10/2013 18:48

I'm 39+1 too and I've felt this way for the last week. After 9 months of rage it's very weird but sooo nice.

Rhibeetee · 27/10/2013 19:11

I suppose even if nothing comes of it, the calm is just as welcome...especially as it's half term! :0
