Did your whooping cough injection cause a reaction in your arm?

I got mine done last Monday and its still bruised, there's a lump and it hurts. Finding it difficult to sleep on and even my clothes brushing past it hurts. The actual puncture gets a bit itchy randomly.

I normally do get slight reactions to jabs, but the flu one only lasted about 2 days.

Anyone else had this? I feel fine otherwise. No health problems at all.

I had mine done yesterday. The nurse said the flu one is more likely to cause a sore arm. I had both in the same arm and it's a bit sore but nothing much else.

I'd be inclined to think it was normal, but obviously go back if you're worried.

PinkParsnips · 26/10/2013 15:32

Yes, I got an egg shaped red, itchy and very very painful (for the first week) lump there and it took 6 weeks for it to fade completely!!

I think while not the normal reaction per se, its nothing to worry about.

Funnily enough when I had the flu jab it barely registered!! No pain or mark whatsoever.

Hawkmoth · 26/10/2013 15:39

No. I insisted I had it in my backside, after reading that it may not be as well absorbed I weighed that up against a week of shit sleep and sore arm.

It did hurt though.

So I guess it's a normal reaction for some. It's strange I've never had one this bad before. Sleeping is a problem especially since I've had it done in my left arm.

I'm seeing the doctor for my 38wk check up next week so if its still hurting then, I may show it.

No. Didn't hurt. Flu the same although that did sting. So no reaction physically to either jab.

LadyMedea · 26/10/2013 16:14

I had mine about 20 days ago and there is still a slight bruise, was sore for 10 days. Flu was a little bruise gone in 3-4. I am on aspirin so probably made it worse. Unless you think its infected I think you'll just have to wait it out. I numbed mine with ice before bed.

Rhianna1980 · 26/10/2013 17:11

I had a small lump and it itched too. It took around a week to disappear.

MetellaEstMater · 26/10/2013 21:34

I had mine on Tuesday and it is still sore and itchy.

LottyLikesWindows · 26/10/2013 21:42

Mine didn't hurt when it was injected yesterday but within a few hours I was in agony. Could hardly move my arm. It's getting better today - tried to keep my arm moving as normal. Hope yours gets better soon too.

Cluelessat30 · 26/10/2013 21:52

It could be worse- the nurse doing my flu & whooping cough jabs did one in each of my arms. I forget why. I had a bad reaction to BOTH of them and couldn't sleep comfortably for over a week. Bitch.

TwickyWoo · 27/10/2013 00:37

Mine was fine... although it did take over 2 weeks for the very nasty black/purple bruise to disappear from it :S

JanePlanet · 27/10/2013 00:51

Could hardly lift my arm, took about a week to settle and was red and itchy.

littlecrumb · 27/10/2013 09:10

Yes I had the whopping cough jab in my left arm and flu jab in my right arm and the left arm has been so sore! I can't lift it too high or touch that area without it really hurting. Also can't sleep on that side so can't do the usual turning to stop hip ache! So annoying.

ipswichwitch · 27/10/2013 09:21

I got a red itchy painful lump and dead arm for 2 days. I had it done almost 2 weeks ago and the lump is gone but I still have bruising. Wouldn't care but it didn't hurt going in - had b12 on other arm and that ones always sore when they give it. Bloody nurse could have told me it was likely to give me that reaction though.

Fakebook · 27/10/2013 10:00

Yes I would've liked some heads up about the likely reaction too.

I checked the repevax information about adverse effects linked from the NHS website last night and the itching and bruising is common, so it's likely more patients would suffer from these. But the vaccine obviously affects different people differently as with all jabs.

Mine is still hurting but I managed to sleep on it last night without much pain.

Yes lump and bruise lasted about 2 weeks. Uncomfortable to sleep on!
