Watery Discharge

Apologies for the topic!

I am 24 + 3 today and have been having a lot of watery discharge since I woke up this morning. I had it last week for a day but then it went so I just ignored it. This morning when went to the toilet my knickers were really wet it has this faint strange smell to it the only way I can describe it is kind of sickly. I've been googling and it seems a watery discharge is quite common but as long as it's odourless.

I hate making a fuss but obviously don't want to sit here doing nothing if I should be doing something. I phoned my midwife team at 19 weeks when I had some bleeding but the MW who ran me back told me to call EPU, when I did they laughed at me and said it was for EARLY pregnancy and I needed to call my midwife so I don't have a lot of faith in them!

Has anyone else had this? Am I worrying over nothing as usual?

I'd get it checked out. Give your midwife a call.

pumpkinsweetie · 26/10/2013 11:51

I second Amber get this checked out as it may be something simple but it could also be you losing some waters x

Thanks for the replies I have just tried to call the community midwives but they aren't there on weekends! A recorded message told me to call back between 8.30 & 9.30 week days or leave a message, if it's urgent then I can call labour ward or go to A&E.

Think I'm just going to have to leave it until Monday, I don't have any pain and baby is still moving around. If others really bad I will of course do something.

It's just nice to be told that you ladies would get checked out as I often get made to feel like I'm time wasting (as I did with the bleeding because I was too early for labour ward but too late for EPU)! Thanks again.

You aren't time wasting.

Id probably give the labour ward a call. They can test the fluid to see if it is amniotic fluid.

armsandtheman · 26/10/2013 13:25

I'd call the labour ward too. If nothing else they'll register the call so will have a note to take you seriously if it continues iyswim. Similar happened to me and they said if it leaked for more than 24 hours or got at all heavy (needing anything other than the very thin pantyliners) they would test fluid and scan if necessary.

I am sorry they sent you round the houses before. Your baby is viable now though and you never regret the actions you take to keep them safe.

Hope it's nothing (mine was nothing), but my waters did break at 36+3, so you might want to pack a hospital bag a bit earlier than me (I didn't and went into labour with just a fresh top and knickers. About an hour before DD arrived I asked DH to get me a baby outfit from the Boots in the hospital lobby. He panicked and didn't have a clue what to do. I remember saying "Well, I'm a bit busy giving birth. Find a woman in the shop and ask her!" He came back with a long story of how hard it had been!)

Please call labour ward, and speak to a midwife.
Is the fluid sufficient to consider using sanitary protection? It needs checking out in case your waters are leaking (possible but unlikely), in which case you and Bubba need checking out.

Just wanted to say thank you for the replies. I left a message on Saturday for the midwives and one called me back this morning to say I should go to the labour ward so I went in and after a 2 hour wait I was examined and all was fine. They think I may have an infection so have taken some swabs and I need to phone in 5 days for the result.

Feel much happier now I have been told all is well.

Thanks again.
