Hi,I'm 9weeks pregnant and have suffered from terrible 'all day' sickness since I found out I was expecting at around 4weeks.i have tried every home remedy going and also wear the sea bands which eased it for a week or so but still really bad.i went to my doctor and he prescribed me these phenergan tablets,I've done some research and most people say they work but will make you very drowsy.im worried about taking them incase they put me straight to sleep...has anyone else used these and have any feed back? I'm thinking I should try one as I can't cope with this constant sickness.helppp....

I got prescribed them in the States. When I tried to get them in the UK the pharmisist refused to sell them to me. :S

I could only use them at night, they knocked me flat. I and other friends have used them as sleeping tablets (before pregnancy). They don't have the same effect on everyone but I've seen them put big ass men in a deep sleep.

Ohh really? Ithe doctor gave me them last week and told me to only take one before bed but like I said the things I've read up on it are worrying me.maybe I will ask for something different or I read they come in lower doses.thank you Smile

I was prescribed them this pregnancy.

They worked for me, but definitely knocked me out. I could really only take them at night unless I didn't need to do anything in the day. I took one when I was out shopping once and had to stop the car at a service station 15 miles from home so that I could sleep in the car, otherwise I'd have fallen asleep while driving.

My mum is a nurse and uses them to help her get to sleep when she's on nights.

Seeline · 25/10/2013 16:49

same here - really worked forthe nausea/sickness, but did make you very drowsy. I found if I took them early evening I got a good night's sleep, and it wasn't so bad hte next day. Try them and see - if you find them too bad, ask the GP if there is anyhting else.

LadyMedea · 25/10/2013 16:51

They are an old fashioned sedative antihistamine that has anti nausea properties. My doctor prescribed them for me to try as an alternative to stemetil - I just fell asleep on the so stuck with them stemetil.

For a good site on all the different drugs for morning sickness see www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/treatments/

Always worth giving them a try as everyone is different but if they are too sleep inducing there are alternatives so go back to your GP.

Swannykazoo · 25/10/2013 16:53

They didn't make me sleepy after first day of taking them and then first day of increasing dose. And they really really worked for the sickness. Can you start them over this weekend so you can take it easy? Don't try to struggle on without help

Hollymilli14 · 25/10/2013 17:24

I think I will give one a try tonight as my partners not at work tomorrow so can help out. My sickness only allows me to eat about 6 plain cream crackers a day and that's just no good so need to at least give them a go to try And get some food in me properly.i never had any sickness with my 2 daughters and so this was unexpected and has knocked me for 6.thank you all for your help Smile

They didn't help my sickness but did knock me out so I was able to get a decent nights sleep which made a difference.
Smile I'm 24 weeks and still suffering, hope you start to feel better soon.

Hollymilli14 · 25/10/2013 20:58

I think I'm more worried as I've never been put to sleep or felt drowsy before so I don't know what to expect and hate the fact of not being able to control it.lol. I'm a bit of a worrier.but they are worth at least one try so fingers crossed.awww no that's horrible, hope you feel better soon and it eases for you too.x

I took some of a friends (I know!) to try and sleep during a bad spell of Insomnia. I was still wide awake at 5.30 am Hmm

Rewindtimeplease · 25/10/2013 21:04

I took them during pregnancy as I got a stomach bug which was exacerbating the morning sickness.

It stopped the nausea, but will not actually stop you vomiting.

It wiped me, it absolutely wiped me.

VivaLeFUCKER · 25/10/2013 21:05

Surely if you only take one at night it'll have worn off by morning and you'll spend all day feeling sick? At least you'll get a good nights sleep!

I had cyclizine in pregnancy for hyperemesis, which made me feel a bit sleepy but I don't think its as bad as phenergan. Which I do take when I'm on nights to knock me out in the day!

givemeaclue · 25/10/2013 21:12

Used to take these to sleep

Hollymilli14 · 25/10/2013 21:15

I was thinking that as it only lasts like 8hours so by the time I'd wake up my sickness would be back.. Confused the dr said it wouldn't make me any worse than Iam now so that's ok. I'm vomiting quite alot but it's more the actual nausea that takes it out of me as it probably does all pregnant women suffering..

The joys of the first trimester lol

Don't worry about the drowsiness. For me it just made me feel really tired about half an hour after I took it.
Nausea is exhausting isn't it. Ask your GP for Ondansetron - this was the best I have tried. Allowed me to start eating a bit more and no drowsiness.

Onesliceortwo · 25/10/2013 22:12

I was prescribed these too - and they transformed my pregnancy! (I'm 31+2 and have just finished taking them).
I took one each night and they did two things. One, they gave me a good night's sleep and two, they stopped me feeling sick so I could eat.

I was supposed to take one in the morning as well as one in the evening but they made me too drowsy to do so (and have any hope at all of functioning!) Because I only took the one at night, by about 2/3pm, I was starting to feel rough again - but for me, that was bearable as I had slept and I had managed to eat breakfast and lunch and keep them down.

I just wish I'd taken them last pregnancy - it would have been a far more positive experience.

I hope that helps and that you start to feel better very soon.

Pontouf · 25/10/2013 22:15

I had them for my 1st pregnancy. I was never warned about the drowsiness at all but thinking about it while I was taking them I did nap a lot during the day (I was so ill for the first 16 weeks of that pregnancy that I only worked for about half of them all together).

They really worked for me though, the nausea was still there most of the time but I wasn't actually being sick as much - could keep water down so I avoided hospital.
