Blocked but full bladder

I'm 40 weeks today and won't bore you all with my on and off signs for weeks... But last night, and now again tonight, I can't wee properly. I am bursting and it just dribbles as madam is creating a block and it hurts when she moves around now. Kept me up for hours last night and I really want to avoid that again! Help me!!! I am thirsty but don't want to make the situation any worse.

Have you phoned your mw, gp or hospital for advice OP? Sorry to hear you're feeling crappy Thanks

DontCallMeDaughter · 24/10/2013 20:44

Second the suggestion to call GP/midwife. I had this after I gave birth, my bladder was double the size it should have been. It can cause you long term problems if you leave it untreated... Call!

orangepudding · 24/10/2013 20:47

I also agree you need to be seen, could be a uti.

polkadotsrock · 24/10/2013 21:09

Thanks for advice. Rang the midwife and she suggested nhs 24 as sounds like uti. Will wait til morning and get emergency appt at our docs as don't have the energy for out if hours carry on right now. Will just take myself off to bed. Thanks again

Whilst you wait for your appointment, try rocking back and forth and side to side to try and empty your bladder.

polkadotsrock · 24/10/2013 23:14

Weirdly I seem to be able to pee if I lie down for a good while. I've just got up for a wee and it was reasonably successful, same thing happened twice last night, which is why I thought it was a baby position thing rather than infection. Pity my toddler won't allow me to just lie down all day...

was going to suggest rocking back and forth - or just leaning as far forward as you can when on the loo.
Good luck - nearly over now Smile

mineofuselessinformation · 24/10/2013 23:27

If you've found a solution that's great, but really don't leave it if it carries on. I have nerve damage from urine retention which I bitterly regret not taking more seriously earlier. (My bladder had two litres in it by the time I got treatment. Shock)

polkadotsrock · 24/10/2013 23:31

Gosh that sounds awful. I'll definitely still see the doc in the morning. I've had a bit of a frustrated cry and moan and am back to my practical self so will get it seen to...and try to tempt the doc to do a quick sweep whilst I'm there Wink

I would try an inversion as it should relax your uterus a bit and might lift baby off your bladder.

Do not do this alone! I am 34 weeks and I need my DH to help me out of it! Strangely relaxing though!

Percephone · 24/10/2013 23:56

This happened to me too! Please don't ignore and see someone first thing. I ended up with an infection and reduced kidney function. Could call delivery suite for advice? You might need a catheter.

polkadotsrock · 25/10/2013 09:24

Have been docs this morning and had uti confirmed so started on anti-bs. I think I've caught it fairly quickly so hoping there won't be any long term side effects. Thanks for making sure I acted everyone, there is a chance I would have ignored it as I hate 'drama'

Polkadots you have got me thinking now...Since 2 weeks ago (am 34 + 5) every time I get up from sitting its like "woooaaahhhh" with bladder/pelvis feeling very heavy and low and bump seeming to have dropped. So i put my urges to wee with barely nothing happening down to this/babys position too.
At night, obviously after lying I need to get up 3 times and sorry of tmi but I do actually wee normal amounts! Its just in day there is barely anything.

You've made me think it could be uti now but just rung GP and quite disgracefully they said no appointments for over 1 week??! I have no pain when I wee just annoying feeling have to all the time. Quite worried it could be uti now though

K8eee · 25/10/2013 11:20

Glad you got yourself sorted polkadots. Uti's are horrible without the thing of being pregnant. Hope you start feeling better soon Thanks

polkadotsrock · 25/10/2013 11:40

Jemima- that is/was exactly like me, though mine was worse when I was walking. Try th midwife rather than th doc- she might be able to get them to see you sooner. I was dubious because of the being able to go in the night but the doc just said it probably is 'mechanical' I.e. the way the baby is lying but it's meaning that urine is staying in there too long, thus causing infection. I had no pain or burning etc either. Please do try to be seen soon, the mw actually suggested out of hours gp for me so she obviously thought it important.

Thanks K8eee, I've never had one before but could certainly do without this one now!!

Weegiemum · 25/10/2013 11:51

Glad you got it sorted. But do keep tabs on it - I had urine reflux in 2 pregnancies that caused kidney stones. Drink lots of water (don't use cranberry when on anti-bs as it interferes with their function) and go as often as you can. Good luck!

jemimastar · 25/10/2013 12:11

Polkadots thankyou. Mine sounds almost identical to you, it kills when I get up and walk!! I have left a Vmail for my MF team, they never pick up!

polkadotsrock · 26/10/2013 17:58

Any luck Jemima?
Does anyone know if this uti rules out my waterbirth plans???

JamInMyWellies · 26/10/2013 18:02

Oh this sounds very similar to what I have been feeling been putting it down to the way the baby is lying. I have taken to peeing when in the shower as this seems to be the only time I am fully emptying my bladder.

EnidClowes · 26/10/2013 18:04

Hmm, I'm having this too. Will pop to doctors first thing Monday. Just assumed it was normal but reading all the above seems like I ought to get it sorted. Thank you

Yogibear72 · 26/10/2013 23:50

jemistar you are pregnant with a suspected UTI. You should stress this to your doctors surgery. They should book you an emergency appointment the same day as a matter of course. Your condition is serious if you do have a UTI. If you don't have any luck contact the hospital labour ward and explain the situation. The midwife there should be able to sort you out.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 27/10/2013 09:46

I couldn't pee in labour and had to have a catheter both times. The relief was amazing after not being able to wee at all! I assumed it was baby's head getting in the way and assume it'll happen again with number three.

Glad you're sorted, op!
