So, I have taken another day off work as I don't feel well. It really topped it off for me walking around Sainsbury's feeling like I was going to puke.

Taking time off is not a long term solution. So please, help me with any remedies for this horrible nausea that have worked for you.

Any tips will help a local Sainsbury's worker to not have to clear up after a sickly pregnant lady.

Oh dear Sad. I found just the action of chewing helped a great deal. I mainlined chewing gum.

YDdraigGoch · 24/10/2013 14:54

Ginger biscuits helped me - but it may have just been the sugar.

I found that keeping my blood sugar levels up helped enormously - drinking squash laced with glucose powder BEFORE I got out of bed helped a lot with the morning sickness - which was awful with both DDs for about 3 months.

Im sorry to hear you are suffering. Welcome to group... I have recently been through all this. It is absolutely rubbish. Keep a puke bag handy with you just in case you suddenly get the urge to throw up. For me nothing worked to start with, I tried ginger biscuits , etc... But after trial n error I found that eating very very small portions of mildly flavoured foods helped , like salted biscuits, boiled rice . I still felt very nauseated but not as bad as before. Best wishes

Keeping something in my stomach (crackers with cheese, biscuits etc) helped to a certain extent but once the vomiting was uncontrollable then only anti sickness medication helped me. Don't be scared to ask for it if you're having trouble coping - that was the best decision I've made for a long time. Feel better soon xx

Boiled sweets, fizzy water, crackers and travel sickness wristbands are worth a try. Hope you feel better soon

ChocChaffinchEvilGhostBird · 24/10/2013 20:05

if your sickness is bad enough you can't eat anything, and even throw up water you should see your doctor, there are plenty of safe anti-emetics available and there is no need to struggle

can you eat ice? sip with a straw very cold water, or conversely boiling water with lemon, or hot tea,
buy some ketostix from your local chemist, you wee on them and judge the colour result against the packet
if your ketones are 3+ you need medical help - dial 100 for an emergency docs apt if you can't get one with your surgery

there is a hyperemesis support thread if you should need it, HG is a serious and debilitating, and often depressive condition, constant nausea is no joke. Rest up, and eat whatever you fancy - be it healthy/unhealthy whatever.

Ice lollies (specifically del monte orange ones in multipack from the supermarket ) helped me - it was the summer but I think you can still buy them in some places. Or freeze fruit juice?

AnnaBanana25 · 25/10/2013 07:12

Aw thanks guys. I'm having to brave work today so will see how I get on. Luckily, I haven't been sick yet, but been close quite a few times, I'm worried it's only a matter of time.

So far I've tried the ice water idea and ginger biscuits, both help to get the feeling at the time to pass. I've seen crackers quite a few times so will definitely try that, along with your other suggestions.

Fingers crossed I don't spew in my colleagues car today!! :-)

Nappy sacks can make good puke bags. I really would get some in.

The only time I sprinted during pregnancy was those early weeks in the first one. By the time I knew I was going to be sick there was no time...

Smells were an issue for me, so having something to sniff which doesn't smell even vaguely food related could help. But do be prepared to change the smell frequently - I couldn't bear the scent of my moisturiser for quite some time after pregnancy.

notanyanymore · 25/10/2013 07:27

i found ginger ale quite good (ginger tea was puke inducing!)
and nibbling on peanut butter on toast

itsnotrocketscience · 25/10/2013 08:48

I think it's really individual what helps. The nausea is awful i find, i vomit a few times a day but that bothers me less than the constant nausea. Here's whats helped me so far this pregnancy
-acupuncture, but its expensive
-ginger capsules, the evidence isn't massively strong but a study concluded that women'preferred the weeks on ginger than on placebo'. I bought some from holland and barrett, they're big capsules though.
-eating plenty of protein, epecially meat
-drinking is tough, but water goes down easier if ice cold. Coke helped in my 1st pregnancy but is less helpful this time. I sometimes mix tap water, fizzy water and grapefruit juice as its quite sour
-fresh food was a struggle, i think i feel a bit better for getting something fresh in me. I like celery, and tart granny smith apples.
-if there's something you crave, try and have it
-if theres something you really don't want, don't have it
-try really hard to figure out what works for you

Hope thats helpful. I'm now 11+2 and starting to have some good days which is nice.

WhisperMen · 25/10/2013 08:56

salt and vinegar crisps and full fat coke were my saviour. Don't worry about it not being particually good for you, it's more about having SOMETHING in your tummy.

I'm now 32+1 and had horrendous sickness, to the extent I was hospitalised for dehydration at one point. It finally went away about 20 weeks though, so it doesn't last forever. Just be kind to yourself.

I found ginger was the worst thing I could try and would have happily stabbed anyone who suggested it to me by the way Grin

Lilli83 · 25/10/2013 10:06

Carbs, Ginger Tea, Sleep, Ginger Biscuits and willpower. It does get better, you will enjoy pregnancy!
Stay away from supermarkets and coffee shops they are enough to send you over the sickness edge. Good Luck!

Bb14 · 25/10/2013 11:33

lucozade!and Cyclizine

AnnaBanana25 · 25/10/2013 18:03

Well, I've gotten through today OK having had based candy when I've felt a bit queasy, and eating plain things to stave off the hunger. So far so good, fingers crossed for the rest of the week!

Acupuncture. This helped me enormously... I was still sick once a day but it got rid of the constant nausea.. I was at the stage where if one more person had offered me a friggin ginger nut I was going to punch them, so discovering acupuncture was a joyful occasion. Find out if your gp offers it (I heard some do) otherwise I'm afraid it's private and not cheap. But my god I would have paid double and sold a sibling for the privilege. The benefits from each session lasted about three days.

Otherwise, ice cold water, lollies galore, haribo and a ban on all cooking in the house as if anyone else in house cooks and pockets full of poo bags.
