Taking sick days

I am now ten weeks, and having been up for three hours in the night for vomiting and nausea, I have taken my first sick day from work today. I feel like absolute poop - firstly wondering how many of you got this ill that they had to take time off work, and secondly wondering if I should tell my boss now..I was planning on waiting for the 12 week scan...

I had to take 2 sick days off before I was 12 weeks due to sickness. It is really horrible and leaves with absolutely no energy. On the plus side it should start passing for you soon.
My boss guessed when I was 8 weeks pregnant just because I never get ill and I was drinking ginger tea haha. With my first pregnancy I never told her till I was about 16 weeks so it's really up to you what you feel more comfortable doing.

Hope you feel better soon xx

I had to take time off, I didn't plan telling my work straight away as when id found out I was pg was the week before going back to work from maternity leave but I was soo bad I had to tell them just so I didn't get disciplined, I'm glad I did too as I ended up needing to take quite a few occasions off due to pregnancy,

I've had loads of time off sick! In the last 7 weeks I have only been at work for 3 days. I have just been signed off for another 3 weeks and then I have to be reviewed again. Thankfully my boss has been absolutely wonderful so it is a huge weight off my mind that I have her support. Don't ever feel guilty for needing time off for pregnancy related reasons, you need to take care of yourself and baby Smile

I was off for a month straight before 12 weeks, and then was only in sporadically for the next 2 weeks. I couldn't get out of bed without puking, my mum had to come up to stay to look after me, there was no way I could go to work. I had told my boss I was pregnant though. It was a bit unavoidable.

Dont worry about it, i was off work for 2 whole months with terrible nausia/vomiting. As its pregnancy related you cant be scorned for this.

I had it from about week 4-13 and then suddenly as it arrived it started to fade (after i'd lost 18lb!!). Hopefully it should go after your first trimester.

I really do feel for you tho, its absolutly horrible, i really hope you feel better soon.

You can't be penalised for number of pregnancy related sick days, however that only applies once your employer knows you're pregnant. Personally I'd tell them, however if you think its only going to be one day off then its up to you, depends how strict your employer is with disciplinaries for absence!

My bosses have known from the very beginning, I am not 8 weeks. I had to stay home three days right at the very beginning as I had a day of intense migraine followed by two days of extreme dizziness.

I went home from work twice because of dizziness and nausea, and I'm off sick today because I was up most of the night with intense nausea.

It's not worth torturing yourself if you feel horrible, I found going home and sleeping it off better than hiding in the staff room hanging over the bin.

I had a few days off due to bad sickness and feeling no energy when I first found out I was pregnant, then luckily I had some planned annual leave the week my pregnancy was confirmed and got myself booked in with my midwife, when I went back after annual leave my boss had to do a return to work form (my company's policy) for the sick days and I told him then I was 9 weeks pregnant but wanted to keep it quiet until 13 weeks when I had my scan, I work in the kitchen of a residential home so just the kitchen team were told and the Homes manager, as my maternity planner had to be put into

Place and everyone was brilliant about it, had no problems with work at all finished on Mat leave at 32 weeks x

What rockchick said,

Pregnancy related sickness absences need to be recorded separately to normal sickness absences and you cannot be disciplined due to them but that only counts if they know you are pregnant.

It is also useful for them to know if you are very sick as if it turns out you have HG and not morning sickness then there may be health and safety steps that they can take and reasonable adaptations to help you.
