Pregnant plus toddler

I know obviously this has happened the world over for billions of years, but I still worry that constantly picking up my 14 month old is bad for my current 4.5 month pregnancy. I seem to recall spending a large part of my first pregnancy lounging around on the sofa, whereas I am obviously running around, bending, lifting, etc etc the whole day with this one. Is there actually any risk in this?

I think it's fine to lift a toddler while you are pregnant. Try to bend from the knees rather then your back. Also I think we are meant to avoid sit up type exercises. Is there someone who can help with other things so you can have resting time?

I'm 39+4, DS is nearly 2 and I'm still carrying him in the sling (easier than pushing the pram!) and being bounced on constantly.

The way that the bump is wriggling around tonight makes me thing that it hasn't been overly harmed by this!

On the other hand I feel absolutely done in by it all!!

If you are worried about it try teaching your DC to do things for himself. They are really willing to try and want to be independent and love all the praise they get for trying. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and my DS turned 2 in August, however due to an existing back condition (which I had before becoming pregnant first time round), my little DS has had to be independent from as soon as he could walk and as a result I have this wonderful little person who can climb in and out of his own pram, highchair, car seat and bed and I havn't had to lift him at all. He will also walk for miles and loves it, whereas my friend's children seem to want carried all the time. I do feel guilty about not being able to do everything that other mum's do with their toddlers, however we just have lots of cuddles to make up for it and I don't think he has missed out in any way. He is doing a fair bit of jumping on my bump and bashing into me these days which is pretty uncomfortable but I'm sure it won't do any harm. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you have something that prevents you from doing the 'normal' things, you always find alternative ways around them and a way to manage. I have no idea how I'll manage with 2 as well as my condition, but I will find a way. Good luck!x
