I've just realised have got a check up next week with my dentist and I'm aware I'm entitled to free treatment. How does this work with telling them as proving it to them? Do I need a document of some sort?

My MW completed a form for me and then a couple of weeks later I received an exempt from charges card in the post. I just presented that at the dentist and it was all free.

I would probably postpone your dentist appointment if you can and get onto the MW straight away.

If you've got your MatB1 form now I'm sure you can take that along? Or give the dental surgery a call and just ask.

How pregnant are you? I'm pretty sure I received my exemption card in the post at around 16 weeks. Your MW should have filled in a form with you at some point after 12 weeks.

I Donno about the exemption card as where I live we don't have the equivalent of the nhs (we have to see dentists private and it costs an arm and a leg :( ) but when I went the other week my dentist advised that they only like to do dental work between 13 and 25 weeks. She did say they will do work after 25 weeks, she just doesn't like to as it is uncomfy for mum cos of the way they have to position you.

Middle trimester is best for treatment but you can do it at any time if it's really necessary (had a 12week gone lady in agony with toothache at my clinic yesterday).

You need to provide proof or you should pay and claim it back. Your dentist can't claim for their expenses if they don't have proof of your exemption. And of course, it's only free I it's an NHS dentist.

I'm in NI, but when I went for my checkup, the receptionist saw on the computer that I was pregnant and I didn't have to say or do anything. It's an NHS dentist so I assumed there was some kind of link up between their system and the DR's.
