Do I need waterproof sheets for cot/carrycot/Moses basket?

I'm trying to get everything ready for arrival of our first, late November all being well. Do I need waterproof sheets to go under fitted sheets in our cot/carrycot/Moses basket, or is this a waste of money?

They are useful, you'll almost certainly have accidents at some point and it's a bugger to clean a mattress. Some are more plasticy than others, although you can always double up on sheets if you want (this is what I do).

Although thinking about it, it wouldn't bother with waterproof sheets for Moses basket - loads of babies hardly sleep in them, plus you're unlikely to be having nappy leaks when they're tiny. A musin under their head to catch sick should do the trick.

Waste of money, just fold an old towel in 2 and cover it with a muslin or sheet.

Defo get one for the cot, in fact I got 2. One clean, one in the wash. They don't dry very quickly.

It’s been useful when dd has vomited in the cot but I’ve not used them elsewhere and don’t think they’re necessary other than in her cot.

Thank you very much for all the sensible advice! Think I'll get one to use in the cot.

I might be wrong but I don't think they're recommended for under 1's - increased risk of SIDS from overheating.

In the cot (and on the beds of all 3 DC) I used the disposable ones on top of mattress protectors.
