Flying 8hrs at 30 weeks with recurring UTI?

I'm 28 weeks and have had recurring UTIs for the last 6 weeks. I'm on antibiotics as it's struck again and still in some pain with restricted movement. Luckily the baby is fine. At 30 weeks I'm meant to fly 8 hours (in economy) for an important wedding. The country has good healthcare and I have appropriate insurance for the trip.

Question is, would you do this? My midwife won't really commit either way but has implied that perhaps I shouldn't. She said that I should get checked out at the hospital this week and they'd advise me.

I'm also worried that the insurance company will be difficult if I do have to cancel. Has anyone got any experience of this?

Can you speak with your GP? Mine in the past have given me antibiotics to take with me in case of any problems. Worth asking

Check the airline will allow you! I thought some might not take you after 28 weeks.

Hi there, no experience of the flying part but I would urge caution with the recurring UTIs. I had them from my booking in at 8 weeks and was on and off antibiotics for pretty much the whole pregnancy. I ended up being hospitalised at 29 weeks and was in for a week as the infection had spread to my kidneys and I needed IV antibiotics. This is obviously worse case scenario but would be awful to have been away when it happened.

I have tripple checked with the airline, they allow me to fly until 36 weeks(!), although I'll need a note from 29 weeks. Asking the GP for antibiotics in advance is a good idea, thank you for that suggestion.

Flickstar, can I ask how had it spread to your kidneys and how did you know this? I assumed that the antibiotics would do their thing again and that this was as bad as it would get. I've been on them since Friday and do get pain in the kidney area on and off.

Sorry, just seen this! They think it spread to my kidneys because it was so recurring that the antibiotics just couldn't treat it. It wasn't immediately obvious that's what was wrong with me as I had flu like symptoms- high temperature, shivering, vomiting, feeling weak etc. Went into the maternity assessment unit as I felt so awful and my pulse and temp were sky high and infection showed up in my blood work so they hospitalised me.

Sounds awful Flick, glad they managed to find the source of the problem. I went to the maternity assessment unit last night, they said that I might be resistant to antibiotics, but that I'm not showing normal signs of a UTI in urine samples (although testing positive for other things - protein, white blood cells and actual blood) They've also said that they think I am probably fit to fly...which I wasn't expecting tbh. Back to the midwife Monday for a final decision. Thank you for your advice.

I can't help with the UTI's, but I was banned from flying with DC3 following my 21 week when Placenta Praevia was diagnosed. I had to cancel a trip to Krakow and had no problems with the insurance as I asked nicely demanded a letter from the hospital when they said I couldn't fly.

I also had to cancel a UK holiday cottage (again on medical advice, by which time i was forbidden to be more than 20 minutes from the hospital) which wasn't covered on my insurance, but my bank policy paid out.

Hi, be cautious my friendflew to the us when she was 28 weeks and her waters broke a few days into her h

Oppos into her holiday and she was hospitalised for 3 months and then had to wait for the baby to be able to fly and paper work (eg babies passport). Extreme case but it does happen and you need to ensure that your insurance covers this as private care is very expensive
