So DS is at pre-school and bump is due in 12days! Excited!!!! Anyway back to the point, I'm looking for advice on school run success. At the moment I am truly a waddling weeble so am driving to school and walking in with DS. As baby gets older I am planning on walking to school so baby will be in pram. But in the beginning I am thinking of getting some version of baby sling so baby is strapped to me and I still have hands free to hold DS hand near roads etc and help him get sorted in the cloakroom. Just wondering what people find works for them, would u get baby all set up in pram for the walk from car to school, use baby sling, carry baby in arms or take baby in car seat??? And if u think sling is a good idea can anyone recommend one as I never used one with DS. Thank you x

I have been thinking about the same thing- ds is 2.5 and is at nursery 3 days a week. Dd is 8days old. At the moment dh is taking ds to nursery while he is on paternity leave but when he has gone back to work I plan to walk and use a sling for the baby. I have a baby bjorn carrier which I got 2nd hand from eBay when ds was tiny and I also have a Moby wrap which I have just bought which I think will be a better carrying position for the baby and a bit better in cold weather because her legs won't be sticking out.

If you fancy using a sling there are lots of sling libraries around where you can try out a few different types to see what you like before you commit to buying anything, and when / if you do buy one check eBay and nct sales etc for 2nd hand ones to save a bit of money.

I am a big fan of slings and was still carrying my ds in one (boba 3g) until about 37 weeks pregnant and will re-start once I have recovered from my c section.

I am sure that if you just carried your baby in your arms between the car and school there would be plenty of willing volunteers to have a cuddle while you get your older one sorted out, I know there would be at ds nursery Smile

I'd go for a sling or carrier if you have the choice.

At one point I had DS in Y1, DD1 age 2 and DD2 as a tiny baby.

I used a buggy for DD1, as she could get out and walk into the classroom at school, and an Ergo or LittleLife carrier for DD2.

Then a lovely fellow mum gifted me a double buggy, so I used that and just carried DD2 in the classrooms. That was easier for the walk in but a bit chaotic in the classroom!

We progressed to a single buggy with buggy board, and now they are 7, 4 and 2 we scooter to school and back unless DD2 is very tired, when the single buggy comes out again.

There were always plenty of people needing a cuddle, and our reception / Y1 classes always have heaps of babies in arms and prams parked outside.

have you seen the little steps for the back of a buggy? they mean that your oldest can be in the middle of you whilst holidng a buggy. not sure what they are called but its like a mini skateboard attached to the buggy

Thank u ladies, I think I'll def look into different kind of slings and try some out. I'm hoping to get a good idea of how it'll work at drop off and pick ups with baby in tow while hubby is on paternity to lend a hand
