Is it really worth paying extra for the clear blue ones?

I don't think so I always bought the cheap ones and have had positives with them before I was due on, on 7th pg carrying dc5 (2mc)

Daiso · 20/10/2013 20:25

I did a First Response 2 day before AF due and got a line then went out straight away and bought a CB digital and got a Pregnant 1-2 weeks. So both worked 2 days early.
I got the digital one as liked to see the "pregnant" so there was no mistake with the lines.

Clear blue gave me my BFP without any faff or confusion, I'd tried a Boots own brand one before but it was hard to read.

PuppyMummy · 20/10/2013 20:27

No! They are not very sensitive. I would go with First Response or if you want cheaper Superdrug own which are very sensitive. Pink dye is better than blue as easier to spot an evaporation line!

If you are testing a lot then internet cheapies are quite popular, although I preferred to wait until my period was late to avoid disappointment so never bothered with them.
hth Smile

I used Boots own (multi pack of 2) and it wasn't wrong. I actually used a few and they all said preggo. I am now 30+3 weeks with a wriggler.

you just need to know if you are upduffed. You can find out exactly how far along at your first scan.

chillisbopper · 20/10/2013 23:36

I used a cheap pack of dipping strips from B&M, 3 for £1 because I was worried about wasting money, got a positive straight away on first day period was due. I did all 3 just incase...then DH told all of his family and I suddenly freaked out what if the test had been wrong. I did a further 4 tests using Clear Blue to be extra certain...now 34+2 with our first, next time i don't think I'll be bothered about the brand to be honest, the extra clear blue were unnecessary really Smile

LightTripper · 21/10/2013 08:28

I did the Boots own 2 pack and only used one! Came up BFP straight away. I did wait until 5 weeks though.

BartBaby · 21/10/2013 10:26

I'd recommend superdrug ones, I did mine 3 days early and got my bfp. I also did a clearblue digi one on the day af was due just to be sure, and because I (and dh!) needed to see the actual words to believe it. Have a look round for offers. I found asda much cheaper for them than boots were.

Wilberforce2 · 21/10/2013 10:30

Sainsburys ones are really good and I've got my first positive on those twice now, we have trouble conceiving though so I always followed up with a CB digi just to see the words "pregnant" but that's just me!!

MissHC · 21/10/2013 10:41

Superdrug own brand or First Response ones were good. However DP didn't believe they were positive (as 1 line lighter than the other) so got a ClearBlue digital that showed Pregnant - he couldn't deny it then! Smile This was a day after the First Response one showed up positive.

PinkWitch803 · 21/10/2013 11:42

Just to add, I was 7 days late, which is not unusual as it only my third month off the pill and my periods have a history of being eratic, but I felt funny with the sorest boobs known to mankind. So in total I was about 5 weeks along. The first Boots own, no frills, test showed a positive before I had finished wiping the excess pee off the stick. And I did the others for fun as they were due to expire before I was due and it was my first time :).

All the stick is doing is checking for HCG levels, it isn't worth spending a fortune on it IMAO.

princesscupcakemummyb · 21/10/2013 14:47

tbh i used the tesco ones and other cheap brands and they are just as good as clear blue i confirmed with the clear blue digital but they def aint worth the money tbh

BettyBi0 · 21/10/2013 19:02

I liked the Superdrug own brand ones. As an early tester post IVF I liked that they were really sensitive and showed a pale line earlier than other tests. A word of warning if you are a serial tester ilije I was: I found they faded much quicker than the FRER tests so weren't that satisfying to see the positive line progressing and getting darker.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 21/10/2013 19:45

I bought a 20 pack of sensitive cheapies off ebay with all 3 of mine and they've always been correct and when I get a +ve from the cheapies I go out and buy a nicer one from the chemist (not digital) for sentimental value to keep in my dc baby box. I don't do the digital because the battery has a limited life and the screen goes blank after a bit.

bellablot · 21/10/2013 22:14

The only problem tests I had we're the 'pregnant' 'not pregnant' ones, clear blue I think. Boots or Tesco 2pack do the job and at a third of the price, why pay more for branding, it's sheer madness!
