so worried :-(

I started spotting brown spotting 10 days ago, went to the Early Preg Unit where they scanned me and said that I was about 5.5 weeks and a heartbeat couldn't be detected as it was just too early. I was sent home with a further scan appointment for 2 weeks later and the brown spotting stopped 2 days later. Then 2 days ago i woke up with further brown spotting and in a panic returned to the same unit where they did another scan and were able to see a healthy heartbeat (apparently a lot of growing had happened within the week between scans).

My concern is that I will be 7 weeks tomorrow, am still spotting brown and , although the team at the Preg Unit were very kind and told me not to worry, I just can't seem to get rid of this panic. i just WISH the spotting would stop, it's driving my crazy :-(. I also am not experiencing a huge number of pregnancy symptoms, other than smell and some breast tenderness (which seems to come and go) so i am continually wondering if I have lost the baby...

Does anyone have any advice? thanks a million, i feel like i'm losing the plot...

Do try not to worry too much, easier said than done I know, but stress won't help. Spotting is quite common in early pregnancy, I had it intermittently between 5 and 8 weeks, I'm now a blimp at 33+3!
When is your scan booked for?

miki123 · 17/10/2013 17:36

Thanks MOgz, am finding it so so hard...have already had 2 scans (last one 2 days ago showed a heartbeat) but my 12 week scan is on November 19th (which is also my birthday!)

(they cancelled my scan set for next week as they saw a heartbeat this week)

It always feels like such a long wait for that 12 week scan.
Take it easy in the mean time, take your vitamins, folic acid and eat/drink well.
Have you been booked in with a midwife yet? It's always worth asking if they have a mobile number you can use so if you have any concerns you can text through questions.
I hope that you have a wonderful birthday complete with seeing your little one growing well in that scan.

Thank you. Yes , I have the midwife appointment on November 7th so not too long to wait, am going to have to find a way of remaining calm.

Thank you for your help and huge congrats on your big bump, so exciting :-).

I had brown spotting when I was 7 weeks pregnant and 10 weeks pregnant. Both episodes lasted a few days and I was scanned on both occasions which showed a happy and healthy baby Smile I then went on to have a big fresh blood bleed when I was 14 weeks, but again the scan showed the baby was fine. I'm now 17 weeks and a scan I had last week (follow-up after my big bleed) showed that baby is growing well Smile

Please try not to worry, easier said than done I know.
I'm sure your birthday scan will completely reassure you x

I had brown spotting like that from 6-8 weeks, starting and stopping. EPU scan showed a pool of old blood that just took a while to clear out. They told me not to worry, but I still worried like crazy, and I'd had a loss just before this one which didn't help.

What helped me was to let myself be worried, but let myself do/think/feel other things as well. So when I started getting panicky, I would tell myself: okay, I am scared, but I am also going to read this book or watch this TV programme or go out or whatever, to give my brain something else to do other than running around in circles with the panic sirens blaring. Seemed to help a bit.

I am now 20 weeks along and everything is fine.

Thank you, yes that is encouraging. The spotting is only very little (and quite watery and light brown) and the Early Greg Unit said that seeing a healthy heartbeat was all very positive however I guess that, as i'm not experiencing a huge amount of symptoms, I'm just having a hard time believing this is really happening (and subconsciously preparing for the worst to avoid total heartbreak). Have you heard of other people with few symptoms at 7 weeks?

Big congrats to you on your 17 week bump :-)

Thank you for your advice PterodactylTeaParty, I am going to TRY and follow it by doing the same. It's so helpful to be able to share experiences like this (I think that part of my worry is that only very few people know I am pregnant so I can't even talk about issues as i normally would). It's also helpful to see that brown spotting seems quite common at this stage.

Hi miki cant advise on the spotting but I am 7 weeks and have had hardly any symptoms.

I have had on and off slightly sore boobs (off for last few days!) and am tired and thirsty but thats it!

I spend most weeks either up or down alternating between believing im pregnant and thinking I cant possibly be! im just trying to think positive and like to look at my pee sticks to remind myself I am pregant!!

I had a weeks worth of spotting at 9 weeks and was terrified. They said it may have been the placenta attachment and hitting some blood vessels
