Chair for nursery

What chair did you use for nursing? I was totally off the glider type as I don't think they look very nice but I collapsed into one in John Lewis recently and it was super comfy (tho I was exhausted!). So I don't know - one of those or a normal arm chair? Plenty of room in the nursery so space isn't a consideration. Would rather not bankrupt ourselves but a few hundred would be just about acceptable (cheaper would be better!)

Any tips?

I got one from kiddiecare that was £160 with a foot stool and very comfy. It's black which I've never seen before, but I think you get other colours. I have it in the living room thou and have black couches.

It's so comfy I slept on it today with Ds asleep on my shoulder.

I thought the 'made for the nursery' glider chairs were very expensive for the (crap) quality. We bought an ordinary upright armchair from John Lewis. It was in the sale and cost about £400 but it will last long after our babies have grown and in fact will be perfect when I'm 90.

I nurse my baby girl in it every evening and the armrests are just the right height for me to lean on with her head in the crook of my arm.

I bought a glider chair with footstool on ebay for £35. It is uber comfy

I loved my glider so much, it was so comfy, supporting and soothing, especially when BFing through the night. Bought secondhand and sold on for about the same amount so not a bad deal really!

i bought a glider on gumtree for £15 - so comfy. i'd try and get it 2nd hand if you can. could always put a throw or sthing on it to make it look better? or replace with something nicer looking after the sicky newborn stage.

I've got a ikea poang chair off a friend so will be using that xx

I've got an ikea poang chair. I tested it with my new nephew the other day and he liked the movement. I may well invest in a feeding pillow to provide extra arm support.

I was considering one of those myself, but they are darn ugly. I was thinking about getting a pretty throw to cover it up with.

I have seen gliders in john lewis aswell, unfortunatly they are out of my price range.

Another fan of the Ikea Poang chair - did me proud. Also invested in a 'my Brest friend' feeding cushion which was worth its weight in gold despite the cheesy name!

I have a glider (kiddicare one) and it was great when dd was little and feeding but I do wonder if it contributed to her sleep issues always being rocked and fed to sleep.
It is also incredibly squeaky which can drive me a bit crazy in the middle of the night.

Blankiefan · 17/10/2013 18:34

Hmmm, Tarka, I was a bit worried about that too. Having read all of 3 chapters of Tina Hogg I do note that she recommends not rocking to sleep... So much to consider...

I was desperate last time for a proper old fashioned rocking chair. I looked at all sorts of chairs but nothing was quite right.

Eventually my MIL found one in the charity shop she works in for 20 quid. We refurbed it, added a cushion and job done.

It's surprisingly comfy tbh, currently its in the conservatory but will be back upstairs when dc2 arrives.

I have an Ikea sofa bed. Washable cover on it which is a must as we have had a few vom incidents. Something to consider.

Bought it off eBay £80 absolutely spotless, really comfy & lovely scatter cushions on it.

It gets used all the time as as a sofa.

Flisspaps · 17/10/2013 18:51

We got a rocking chair.

It was piled up with stuff before DD was born. 3.5 years on, it's still covered in crap.

DD and DS were either fed on the sofa or in bed.
