im having a 10 week scan next week. theres nothing on the letter about cost, so i was just wondering what others experiences were of getting a printout. is it free or did you have to pay?

Ours was £5.00 per scan but we got 2 or 3 pics.

The baby wouldn't move into a good position at the 20 week scan so she gave us them for free - my DH can be a tight sod with money so he joked it's definitely his child as it saved him a fiver!! Grin

Il be sure to have some money on me just in case. :) cant wait to finally tell people.. Its an early scan at ten weeks but im just desparate to share my lil secret lol

In my experience you usually get a few more than you paid for, especially if you get on fine with the sonographer.

I've paid £2/photo Queen Elizabeth in Woolwich, £4 (I think, could be totally wrong) at Kings College, and more recently £5/1, £10/3 at St Albans City Hospital. I was there today, paid the £10 and got four.

It does annoy me too when you get several pretty much identical photos, and often, as AhoyAhoy says, the same one but zoomed in. Badly. I mean today I got four photos but they're all pretty much identical, and even more annoyingly, they're not very clear. Seconds before she had a great clear shot but didn't press the button on that, instead she moved the thingy, it went messy, so she printed that. And another three subtle variations on it. I mean, huh? Oh well, at least I got a bonus one.

Add to the fact the appointment was half an hour late due to admin cockups (nobody had registered I was there despite me talking to the receptionists) and I had to pay an extra £2 for car parking on top the £4 I had paid already, I'm feeling ripped off..

Bring along LOTS of pound coins, btw. Sometimes there's a change machine but no guarantee it works. And not every pound coin is accepted.

DaleyBump · 17/10/2013 01:10

Ours is a donation, suggested donation £1 but some lovely ultrasound techs give you lots of pictures for free :)

mmmmsleep · 17/10/2013 01:57

£5 paid before you go in. a little unfair if you end up with a missed miscarriage :-/

Lozcat86 · 17/10/2013 05:46

£5 each but our 12 week scan pics were blurry so we got 3 of them for them free and our 20 week scan we paid for one and got 3.

LightTripper · 17/10/2013 07:14

Wow I had no idea places charged. Got 2 free at Homerton!

Julietee · 17/10/2013 08:18

£5 paid into a machine for a token that was for 1 pic, but the sonographer gave us 3 :)

littlegreendragon13 · 17/10/2013 08:41

Ours said £4 a photo (an increase from £3.50 with DS 18 months ago) but they gave us 3 pics for £4 as we'd just found out we were having twins and I think they thought taking £12 off us was a bit much! :D

Cariad007 · 17/10/2013 10:40

12 week pic was very clear and free but I was told that I'd be charged £2 at the 20 week scan. However the photos from that were not clear at all (different brand of machine, my bladder not as full) so I wasn't charged for those either.

HotCrossPun · 17/10/2013 10:44

I'm in Scotland and mine were free. I've two 12 week scans so far and got 5 different photos at each.

20 week scan today and I'm expecting it will be the same. Although I've now realised how lucky I am to be getting them free so I'll ask if I can make a donation Grin

£10 at coventry, but I got about four for that. I also got some I wasn't charged for when I had growth scans, not in the ultrasound department.

bittapitta · 17/10/2013 11:04

Surprised by how expensive some places are! London: Early scan (9 weeks) free, dating scan (nearly 14 weeks) £2 for two rubbish pics as she wouldn't stop moving. (She was crawling at 6mo so I think it was a prophecy! Very active!)

bittapitta · 17/10/2013 11:05

Oh actually I think we paid £2 for the 20 week wriggly blurry pics, the dating scan one was free.

moanymandy · 17/10/2013 13:33

with ds in 2010 it was £5 and I git about 5 photos.
with this dc it was £10 and I got about 5 at 12 week and 7 at 20 week.

violetbean · 17/10/2013 13:52

£3 per pic for us. Hope appointment/scan go well!

Bakingtins · 17/10/2013 14:32

£4 a picture at EPU - have never wanted a picture of my dead baby, thanks very much Sad I think it's adding insult to injury when everyone there is so worried.

FatPenguin · 17/10/2013 16:37

£3 a photo here.
Bakingtins Sad there wasn't an option to buy photos at my EPU, that would have upset me as well.

SaucyJack · 17/10/2013 16:46

Fiver for two pics.

Tea1Sugar · 17/10/2013 17:36

We paid £5 for 4 photos at Kingston last week. It should have been for 2 pics but the sonographer was lovely and gave us extra Smile

CrispyFB · 17/10/2013 20:27

The EPUs I have been to have all given pictures for free if you ask, regardless of outcome. Sad to see that not all have that policy. An EPU is rather different to the scans later on, where most will be fine.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 17/10/2013 21:19

Free at the Whittington, north London for early scans and dating ones. £2 for 20 weeks. Some of the hospitals here are having a laugh!
