tummy bug in early pregnancy

I'm 10 weeks pregnant and on Tuesday caught a tummy bug that's been passed around our house. Nausea and sickness passed after 24 hours but I'm still off work as feel so drained. Do you think it's normal to take this long to bounce back when the rest of the family seems o.k. after 48 hours?

You are pregnant. Count on 9+ months to recover from anything. I found that I had to put a chair at the top of the stairs so that I could sit down and rest after climbing them when I was pregnant.

Thanks Sofia. Oh how I dreaded that walk to the top of the stairs as my previous pregnancies progressed.

I had food poisoning at 12 weeks last time, and was very very worried - like you I felt much worse than I usually would. A nurse on NHS Direct was very comforting, explaining that my body was focusing on the baby rather than the tummy bug. It certainly wouldn't let any of the bug get anywhere near the baby, if it could help it. Also, your body is being hyper efficient at flushing out all of the nastiness, which is why the bug is worse than usual - your body is having a real go at it. I don't know how true it all was, but it certainly made me feel better.

To me the annoying thing was having finally got through the first trimester and shaken off the morning sickness, and then one week later ... there I was with my head down the loo again!

Hope you feel better soon xxx

Thanks all for your reassurance, it made me feel better about taking it easy for that little bit longer. Today is the first day I feel back to 'normal' so it must be the bodies way of slowing me down to protect the baby.
