membrane/ stretch and sweep did it work for you? how did you feel after??

just wondering what everyones views/ opinions are on stretch and sweep how many did you have? did they work with you? how did you feel after one or the next day?? don't hold back on too much infomation....

I'm 38+4 an had my first sweep today am not sure if it was 2 early for my to have 1 but the midwife said I'm 1 to 2 centimetres dilated already an said my cervix was medium an she was able to sweep round the baby head, it was a bit uncomfortable but nothing worse than a smear I would say. Ive started to have cramps an a dull ache in my back are these good signs? X
