Anterior placenta

I have an anterior placenta and am getting fed up of not having the regular reassurance other people get by feeling baby movement. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and am desperate to feel my baby!! Today I had a midwife appointment and it took forever to find the heartbeat through the 'cushion.' Gosh it was scary! Please tell me others are having the same problem...?? X

I also have anterior placenta and have for last 3 pg. I had to go for check up at 19 weeks due to a fall, it took half hour to listen to Hb, knew he was ok coz we could hear him wriggling but just couldn't find his Hb over placenta, my kicks were starting at 23 weeks I'm now 27+4 and feeling kicks like normal now.

I'm anterior placenta too. I'd felt nothing before my 20 week scan, the odd flutter that could have been wind in the following weeks. I'm now 24+2 and getting lots of kicks. They're not very strong, but noticeable :) they started being noticeable after 22 weeks.

Op it does get better. I have an anterior placenta and I am 29 weeks this Thursday. I didn't really start feeling regular movements till I got to about 26 weeks. I now get some strong kicks and saw my belly moving for the first time the other night.

That's so reassuring to hear. I just wish so much for that regular reassurance as I'm such a worrier anyway. Other than movement, has your MW told you having an anterior placenta can affect you in any other way? I feel very ignorant x

No as long as your placenta isn't lying low. If its lying low then it could affect delivery options. They would have mentioned this at your 20 week scan..

Londongirl84 · 15/10/2013 21:20

No it's actually upper anterior... Praying for movement soon x

It's not so good is it? I have an anterior placenta this time. Posterior last time. There is a noticeable difference in the strength and regularity of movement.

How many weeks are you pasta?

On the up side, DC1 had an anterior placenta and it reduced the 'foot under my ribs' sensation as it cushioned that area more, which is a good thing, especially in the last few weeks!

21 weeks. I can feel odd movements sometimes but nothing consistent and everyone says you feel it earlier second time! I know DH could feel the baby moving by round about this point last time.

That said I'm not surprised. I had a look at my placenta when I gave birth and the midwife was carrying it with two hands. It was massive. No wonder it muffles movement.

Hi another one here with an upper anterior placenta. I didn't feel any movement till 22 weeks.

Kicks got stronger at 25 weeks and now at 28 weeks I can feel every squirm and wriggle and constant movements. I am kind of grateful for the placenta cushioning some of the kicks though Wink

Don't worry you will feel them soon! I remember my heartbeat scan taking 2 whole mins to find the heartbeat and early days of panicking when not feeling movement but trust me you will one day wake up and feel the circus acrobats taking place inside you. Just takes longer with an upper anterior.

Oh and also I only feel movement lower down below belly button and on the sides. Still no feeling kicks above belly button. Again - grateful for that too!

After 26 weeks lay on your left side and have a cold sugary drink and place your hand just below your ribs and you'll soon feel a swimming movement. I too, was very upset that I had an anterior placenta and couldn't feel anything, I panicked and thought the baby had reduced movement at 26 weeks and went to the hospital for tests (bugger being stoic/not making a fuss) this piece of advice has been invaluable. Sometimes the baby just doesn't move as must be sleeping/thinking and I do the above and soon I can feel movement, do it for an hour though -it may take a little while to get moving! I feel the baby at my sides and now that I'm overdue and getting BH - I take myself off and drink some orange squash for reassurance. Midwives can be really annoying, I had one really daft one who looked at me with terror on her face and panicked until I pointed out that if she'd.read.my.notes she would see I had an anterior placenta. She soon calmed down and we got a heartbeat but I've learnt to really trust myself and be sure that I at least am aware what my notes say. It's scary but normal - you'll soon be popping the antacids and wondering why you worried! Smile

I had an anterior placenta with my first, and didn't feel anything till well after 20 weeks. Once she got a bit bigger she really started wriggling and I could feel her all.the.time. And then I could see my belly moving. Not so reassuring now, but you will start feeling the movements more and more.

I don't know where the placenta is this time round, (19 weeks, scan next week) but I've been feeling movements for a few weeks now, and am amazed at how much the anterior placenta cushioned me!
