I was induced with DD1 3 years ago and I'm beginning to worry that I will need to be induced again with DC2 as well and I want to talk to my midwife tomorrow so that I can make a plan to avoid it being quite so awful.

Now it is worth saying straight away that I HATE hospitals and in fact anything medical. I do however acknowledge that I need to do the best thing for the baby and I am obviously willing to put aside my own fears and feelings where necessary.

Last time I was induced I was admitted on the monday morning and had to stay in hospital with absolutely nothing happening until I was put on the drip thing late on Thursday night. Now is it normal not to let people go home after giving the pessery (or whatever it was) even if there is no sign of labour at all? My husband was not allowed in the hospital during this time (except in visiting hours) and it was very stressful for me as I felt utterly trapped. Does anyone know if this is standard practice or do I have a hope of convincing them to let me home if it happens again?

With this pregnancy and the last my greatest fear is the time i need to spend in hospital so I am trying to work out how to keep this to a minimum while still doing everything to ensure the health of the baby.

Last time by the time DD1 was born I was so stressed being trapped in hospital that I did not stop crying for 2 days until the midwives finally agreed with me that hospital was not the best place for me and I could go home. This was before breastfeeding was established and we had a difficult time after I got home which I think could have been avoided if I wasn't so stressed.

I obviously have 3yr old DD1 to think about this time who I have never been apart from for more than a night.

Any advice anyone has to offer would be really appreciated.

Yes it is standard practice at my hospital I am afraid. I hated it last time but I think that because I am prepared for it this time it won't be so bad.

However, there is every chance you won't need the pessary this time round as your cervix may already be open enough to break your waters because it is your second.
