Back spasms - any remedy?

I'm 27wks and since the weekend my back has been in spasm - on the right-hand-side, roughly level with the lower part of my rib cage.

I can hardly move without it really hurting - can't sleep as no position offers relief (save for the odd weirdly-propped position on my back - not ideal!), sitting is uncomfortable and walking/standing is OK if I'm gentle and don't need to carry anything.

Adding to the pain is a bloody cough I've had for over a week - every cough and sneeze really hurts!

I want to cry! Sad

I've tried wallowing in a very warm (not hot) bath, hot water bottle jammed on the worst part (can't do that all day as have to work!). Nothing is helping.

Is there anything else I can try? Please, someone tell me it will go away soon! [hopeful]

One tip that really helped me when I had a bad back was the tip to look up if you feel a cough or sneeze coming. Really worked for me! But wasn't pregnant at the time ... Am paranoid about having more problems as I get further along. As soon as I stop throwing up am going to get back to my exercises!

Looking up? Will definitely try that (for the sanity of those who have had to listen to my coughing for over a week too) - thanks!

Fingers crossed. I admit I didn't have a cold at the time, so used it on sneezes more than coughs... But worth a try maybe!

FWIW I would say with my spasm (which was bad enough to leave me trapped on the floor for a couple of hours) the muscle pain was completely gone in 2 weeks, and mostly gone in a week. The first few days are really the worst, so hang on in there! I did have a bit of left over sciatic pain, which took longer to clear, but that was much less bad (and not made worse by coughs/sneezes/activity), so just annoying rather than really getting in the way of things!

Oh, and the looking up didn't stop the sneeze coming, but for me made it a lot less painful when it did!

Use a wheat bag or voltarol hot patch while at work?

I went for acupuncture and it has really helped, now it's just a more localised ache that is gradually easing, so getting more sleep and it's having less of an impact on day-to-day life!

Hopefully it will disappear completely over the coming days - thanks for your help and reassurance it will go LightTripper!
