How was your 2nd birth after a previous failed induction ending in c-sec?

I am only 9 weeks pg with 2nd baby, early days and not taking anything for granted though do feel fairly positive after scan a few days ago.

Basically, as title suggests, I'm thinking ahead to next birth and trying to decide whether to chance a natural delivery, hoping it won't be like last time, waters broke and had contractions from then, but despite failed pessaries induction followed by 14 hours on syntocin drip never dilated more than 6cm. 3 whole days of labour in hospital.

Anyone had a similar experience first time round who can share what happened 2nd time- did you book in for a planned c sec in anticipation of a similar experience, or chance it with vaginal delivery? If so, was it much faster second time?

Your birth experience sounds exactly like my first Wink

I had DS2 5 months ago, was determined to have natural birth. Was booked for induction at 40+11 but went into labour naturally the night before.
End result was the same tho Hmm his head was too for back in my pelvis (as with DS1) and I wasn't dilating properly.

That's just my experience, everyone is different. If you want a vbac, go for it!

Good luck Grin

Thanks Phantom. Just wish we could have a crystal ball! If I knew it would be much quicker next time and ultimately possible to give birth naturally, I would of course go for it. Same thing happened as with you in that baby was in a bad position hence not much dilation even after 3 days.

I'm not concerned about the pain or inconvenience for my sake, didn't have so much of a sniff of gas and air all through syntocin induction, but now I have a toddler to think of, and being in hospital a whole week and sorting out extra childcare, plus my mum (birthing partner) being able to take enough time off to be with me (ideally just for 1 day of birth rather than 3 days) as happened last time isn't so feasible this time. A planned c sec would mean hopefully 4 days max in hospital.

More stories would be much appreciated.

I had a emcs with my first after a failed induction, 7 years ago, I had my 2nd dc last June by VBAC after spontaneous labour on her due date, the consultants were keen for me to have an elective Caesarian but I was adamant I didn't want the recovery of an elcs. My VBAC was fabulous, no drugs or anything and I liked it so much I'm 34 weeks pregnant again hoping for the same outcome. Everyone is different obviously but just do what feels good for you and don't be bullied into making a decision you don't want! It's your body. Good luck Grin

I was induced with first birth because I was 11 days late - and from the onset DS's heatbeat was not recovering quickly enough after contractions. Short story - induction, long labour, failed ventouse, c section.

Second birth, only 18 months later (!!) I was booked for a c section 5 days after my due date. I wanted a natural birth but not if I was to go very overdue. The morning my c seciton was booked I showed up in hospital in labour, and labour progressed well and steadily. However, when I reached 10 cm, DS's heartbeat went in complete distress, we lost the heartbeat for many seconds, it was total panic and I had another emergency c section.

If I have a third baby I will have a planned c section, but I completely understand that someone would prefer a natural birth.

Second c section was much easier than second, in terms of physical and mental recovery.

I had an almost identical first birth as you with DD, with the exception that I actually went into labour hours ahead of a planned induction at 41 +12. I was there for 3 days in labour and ended with an EMCS.

I found the whole experience so traimatic I will not even contemplate te same eventuality and the only way I can do that is by insisting on an ELCS.

Booked in for an ELCS after a very similar first labour as yours.
Went into labour before the section date but same thing happened, back to back and didn't dilate so had an EMCS again but after six hours not thirty six!!

I had an elective section because I just could not face the possibility of the same thing happening again.

It was lovely. Calm, relaxed and I was actually rational, not exhausted and drugged to the eyeballs when I met DS2, quite the opposite of how I was when I met DS1!

My recovery was much, much quicker, my mental health was excellent as opposed to disastrous. I thoroughly recommend it!!

Same first birth and also concerned about this.

Can they scan the baby's head and your pelvis and see if its likely to fit?? Surely that's possible.

Would prefer vbac i think but don't want to risk rupture and possible hysterectomy as we'd like a third.

Also, since my belly is now ruined, would it be better if the second child comes out the same way, rather than having a ruined belly AND a potentially ruined vagina (if tearing, ventouse etc).

I think if b2b again would go straight to ELCS?

My first ended in emcs after being induced and I fell pregnant straight away ,had dd the week before her due date(on the day I thought she should be due), almost ended in another c sec but had her naturally in the theatre just in the nick of time x
