No movement for a few hours

24+1 and been feeling movement for a couple of weeks (anterior placenta right at the front between my stomach and the baby)
For about 10 days now they've been pretty regular - he was moving loads last night and had a scan yesterday and everything was fine then.
I could feel him moving today at work but I've just realised I haven't felt the baby move all evening. He's normally really active when I sit down.
What shall I do?

Try having a really icy cold drink that makes them jump

londoncitymum · 11/10/2013 20:46

Cold drink or sugary drink like Coke. Sometimes baby turns into a different position meaning you don't feel them as much, I had the same thing (and the same worries). The basic principle is though that if you're worried go and get a scan to give yourself peace of mind that your baby is fine

sonlypuppyfat · 11/10/2013 20:49

Oh and sometimes if you hold your breath they move

HolaGuapo · 11/10/2013 20:49

Sat with a cold drink of water and have shoved a can of coke in the fridge so if this doesn't shift him I'll try the coke. Thanks

Yea my midwife always told me to drink something cold and sugary and then lie on my left side for a bit.

I hope your baby starts moving soon OP. If all is still quiet in an hour or so, phone your maternity ward for advice.

sonlypuppyfat · 11/10/2013 20:54

Keep us posted

HolaGuapo · 11/10/2013 20:57

Just drinking the coke and gonna have a lie on my side for a bit to try and get him moving. If not I'll ring triage. Honestly think I'd be lost without MN! :)

Feeling really paranoid and considering ringing midwife even though I haven't been trying to feel him all that long :(

Do what you feel is right I was always popping down to the maternity ward so they could check on my babies if you are worried just give em a ring

TheRobberBride · 11/10/2013 21:16

If you're worried then phone your midwife/maternity unit. Honestly, they get calls like this all the time and will have procedures in place.

Agree, would call the maternity ward for peace of mind. I had a freak out at 33 weeks and they were lovely and invited me in for a scan. If anything you can talk to them and they can give you their professional advice. Could you get there easily if they asked you to come in?

RandyGiles · 11/10/2013 21:22

I had an anterior placenta too and would quite often go through periods where I couldn't feel movement. It's not unusual, but you should always get worries checked out.

Second what others have said about a cold drink and resting on your left side. Also, if you've been busy today, you may just not have noticed the movement.

HolaGuapo · 11/10/2013 21:29

Just rang them and they told me to lie on my side for 2 hours and if I still feel no movement to ring back and they'll ask me to go in. We live in the back of beyond about 30 minutes from the hospital but DP drives so getting there isn't an issue luckily.
The midwife was lovely and helpful and told me she gets calls like this all the time and not to panic as its still relatively early for movement especially with an anterior placenta.

How did u get on Hola?

sonlypuppyfat · 12/10/2013 18:10

Was everything ok

HolaGuapo · 12/10/2013 22:32

Yes thank you everything was fine! I ended up falling asleep while waiting for him to move out of sheer exhaustion but woke up at about 3 am to some very firm kicks and he's been moving all day again. He's had a quiet evening but starting to move a bit again now. Do babies develop routines/patterns regarding movement in-utero? Confused

TheRobberBride · 12/10/2013 22:36

Glad everything was ok.
Yes, babies do often develop routines. I found that both of mine were quiet during the day then woke up as soon as I tried to sleep!
You'll soon work out when your baby tends to be active/asleep.

missnevermind · 12/10/2013 22:42

If you have a quiet length of time again, lie on the sofa and balance a DVD case on your bump, you should be able to see when he wriggles rather than have to wait for the big kicks.

Bue · 12/10/2013 23:01

Hola babies do not generally develop a pattern of movement until about 28 weeks. I'd talk to your MW about it at the next appt :)

Julietee · 13/10/2013 18:11

If they're really active one evening is it possible they're tired and resting the next day?

quackojuliet · 13/10/2013 19:20

Seems like would make sense for them to rest after an active day,but advice I've received is always to be safe rather than sorry,ie to get checked out if you are concerned, they haven't moved as they usually do.
All midwives would ratjer you got checked unecessarily than heaven forbid it was something serious.
I was advised by a midwife too that fainter kicks than usual are less of a concern, more the absence of kicks or a big reduction from when baby is usually active.faint kicks can just indicate a baby kicking inwards.
