partial placenta praevia and bleeds

hello,

just looking for some support and advice. currently 33 weeks.

i got told i had a low lying posterior placenta at 20 weeks and had a scan at 32 weeks to see if it had moved. mine is partial placenta praevia, it isn't covered the opening just reaching. my consultant seemed pretty convinced that it would move but everyone i speak to says something different.

it hadnt moved at 32 weeks and they booked me in for an internal scan at 36 weeks.

the day after my scan i had a pretty big bleed (500 ml) and ended up in hospital. it came from nowhere and i had to stay for 48 hours. it was pretty scary as as soon as i got there they started prepping me for theatre and obviously at 32 weeks that is not what you want.

i am now absolutely terrified. i have been told that i could bleed again or i might not but that i have to go to hospital as soon as i do but now i am terrified to be on my own incase something happens and also just not sure what to expect from the next few weeks. i just found every doctor had different advice and i feel totally confused.

has anyone else had some bleeds and gone on to either have their planned c section (cos the placenta didn't move) at 38 weeks or even a vaginal birth if the thing decides to shift?

thank you for reading xx

I had major placenta praevia - first big bleed at 29 weeks and was in hospital as an inpatient for most of the rest of the pregnancy. Had planned section at 38 weeks.

It can move but it might not - the doctors have no way of knowing. Assume that it won't though and be prepared. Take things very easy - no heavy lifting, no sex, no exercising and try not to go anywhere on your own. Sounds scary but the weeks will fly past. Have your bag ready to go at all times. If at all possible try to get as much bed rest as you can. My gorgeous little girl was worth every second that I spent lying in a hospital bed worrying about bleeds! Good luck.

I am similar to you cotton in that I have a partial previa, my placenta is anterior.

at 26 weeks I had a big bleed and ended up in hospital for 48 hours, I had steroid injections for the baby's lungs and all the checks. I was discharged and told to rest for a week, thankfully (in a strange way), I developed a nasty cold which floored me, forcing me torest.

I was told to keep calm and not overdo anything. I had a consultant appt on Tuesday who suggested working 45miles away with a 2/3 hour commute was not a greatidea. By Thursday, the doc has signed me off and by Friday I had tidied up my work to hand over.

I live next to my hospital and I feel so much happier that I have taken a huge stress out of my life. BUT I am now super paranoid about everything.

I am only 29 weeks and I know that technically, my baby is viable, I would very much like to keep cooking for a little while longer.

the consultant explained that if I get any bleeds or any pains to get things checked out. It is quite scary, but I figure that if I do as I am told, I can still enjoy my pg.

I have also been assured by other MNers, that this happened to them and all was well in the end, with some being late.

I had a grade 3 major PP. First huge bleed at 32 weeks, then again at 34 weeks, and 35 weeks and 37 weeks resulting in a EMCS. My placenta was also anterior meaning they had to cut through it too get baby out !! It was a horrific few weeks, i was in hospital from 35 weeks and due to have planned section at 38 weeks, however i puked at 37 and bled heavy, they decided if the pressure from puking was enough to make me bleed it was too dangerous to carry on, just goes to prove exersion can cause bleeds !! If you bleed again please call 999, in most cases its ok, but sometimes the bleeding doesn't stop and this is risky for you and baby xx
My baby boy is now a healthy 7 weeks :)

I had grade 4 PP with both DC2&3.

With DC2 I was amitted at 33.5 weeks, in for 2 days, released, back within 24 hours, stayed in until planned section at 37.5 weeks (negotiated as I refused to ave CS on my birthday!)

With DC3, I was admitted at 24 weeks, 26 weeks, 31 weeks, 3 times at 33 weeks at which point I was in for the duration. I had a CS booked for 37 weeks, but had emcs at 36+1
