Flying to New York!!

I am 5+1 weeks currently and will be flying to New York for a week at the end of October. I will be 7/8 weeks then. Have read mixed information on whether it is ok to fly or not and what I should do during the flight. Anybody else flown long haul during first trimester. How was the experience? Any advice? Thanks :)

It is fine! If you have morning sickness I would grab extra sick bags as you get on the plane. There are plenty of Flight Attendants still working whilst pregnant.

I went on roller coasters at about that stage (despite signs to the contrary) and DS is fine (17 years old now).

Fine to fly, just make sure you stay hydrated and move around a little.

If in doubt over conflicting info I'd say nhs website is best for uk mums. That's the same advice you should be getting consistently throughout your care.

Yes, you'll be fine. I did the same flight a little later in my pregnancy (around 18 weeks and then returned 4 weeks later), but also flew in first trimester. The only thing that was challenging for me is I'm a terrible flyer who usually has to resort to drugs to cope with my anxiety on planes, so I had to make do without the Xanax...

Yes it's fine I should think. I flew to new York at about 24 weeks and it was fine, I just wore flight socks.

I'd get travel insurance now & ensure it covers you for pregnancy-related issues eg m/c. Also inform them now that you're pregnant.

It's a great place & lovely time of year to visit, lucky you!

I flew long haul when 10-ish weeks pregnant, and I was fine. As greentshirt said, keep hydrated and make sure you get up and move around every now and again. Also seconding the flight socks

I flew back and home again to Florida at 5 Wks and 26 Wks. All totally fine. Just wear compression tights, drink and walk around Grin

I flew to the west coast of the US when 9 weeks pregnant, I felt perfectly fine.

I did end up miscarrying while in the US, but every doctor and midwife I talked to said it was completely unrelated to the flight.

I didnt fly long haul but went short 3 (haul) at 9 weeks in aug. Was very stressed about it but all was ok. I didnt bother with flight socks as was only short haul but i maybe would if i were you. I drank lots of water and went toilet a good few times so i walked about. Luckily i had no morning sickness but if you suffer stock up on sick bags as op above says.
Above all enjoy it. I would love to go newyork at xmas time!

Thanks Guys... feel much better about flying now... just hope i don't suffer from nausea and sickness (so far so good)
Wasnt going to bother with the flight socks but I will look into them as so many of you recommend them!
We pre-booked our seats next to the window but I have changed them to aisle seats so I dont have to disturb anybody to keep getting up for the toilet! Haha
Have looked into Travel Insurance today and it doesnt matter or make a difference as "pregnancy is not an illness". So should something happen whilst over there I will be covered with the norman insurance :)
