went in for an induction.. ended up having a emergency c-section after 17 hours later as the midwife realised that the baby was facing the wrong way as she was facing to left.. scar healed up brillaint (dd will be 21 mths old tmrw).

im just wondered why didnt my midwife picked this up during my pg??... as i had a transverse pg till baby head was engaged at 36 weeks presumed its all ok

I think they still change position towards the end. Some even twist round in labour. No one spotted DS1 was back-to-back either or didn't comment on it.

as i always knew why dd feets were kicking on my left side ribs and not on front

soemtimes they really can't tell. Even the sonographer reckoned that dt1 was ceph, when he was actually breach. I could feel his head but they insisted it was his bottom. I had to sob, swear and scream before I got a section!

Yeah, I think Soupy's right.
No-one pointed it out to me in labour either, or maybe I just didn't realise the implications, so I was shocked to find afterwards that back-to-back presentations are seen as a clinical indication for an epidural (so, like, how come I had to argue with the midwife to get mine?).

Kelly - doh!

my eldest dd who will be 15 on saturday, was not only back to back, but her head was flexed upwards so that her face came into the birth canal, not the back/top of her head, id even had a scan 2 days previously and it wasnt spotted.

Kathy, I'm also shocked to find out that back-to-back presentations are seen as a clinical indication for an epidural!!

All 3 of mine have been back to back and it has been casually mentioned by the mw's after I've given birth!

Well, I'm just guessing that it's the most comfortable way for them to lie in me for all 3 to have done it

Try not to worry too much kayzed about the back to back bit of labour, mine have all been fine, managed the last 2 on gas and air

Sorry, not sure what the implications of having an anterior placenta are

liath · 29/06/2006 21:40

I wouldn't say that if the baby is back to back it means you need an epidural, though - a lot of midwives would advise that the more active you are in labour the more likely the baby is to turn. Mine was OP all the way through pregnancy, the midwife told me what positions in labour would help & she must have turned at some point because she came out the right way.
