I'm having a C Section and just starting to buy items. Any advice please in regards to items bought that helped with caring for a baby while healing? Grin

Big pants for you so that they don't rub on your scar. I've had 2 sections and can't think of much else other than making sure you have stocked up on ibuprofen and paracetamol for when you get home. Oh and loose soft waisted trousers such as jogging bottoms or over the bump mat clothes

I never used one of those feeding pillows, I bought one and tried it but it made it all harder

There wasn't anything I bought for helping with baby but I did buy arnica, to help myself heal, peppermint cordial to help with trapped wind post op, I took ibuprofen and paracetamol and sat on the sofa.
The best thing is to hold your baby, put your feet up, walk round the house if you feel you can and take the time to heal. I recovered super quick, wether it was down to any of those things or luck who knows...oh and wear comfy clothes with baggy tops if you are feeding!

Thank you PM. Can you think of any equipment that helped with breast feeding or carrying a baby with a healing wound. I've seen a baby picking up thing but I'm not sure. I know you can't lift Etc Grin

Lansinoh nipple cream

I was looking at the feeding pillows but was wondering if it helped with feeding with the wound or not? X

We had a cot top changer. Bought it on a whim from a car boot sale, then had an emcs and it was brilliant for non-bending changing.

Good luck and congrats Grin

Boxer shorts!! Way comfier than trying to find comfortable big knickers, they tended to roll down and sit in my scar-midwife suggested it to me and it was a great tip-knicked a pair of dp's well washed ones and they were v comfy.

I got a memory foam v shaped pillow which was invaluable for holding and feeding the baby. it meant I had to hold less of her weight and made feeding much easier in terms of positioning the baby. it also helped me feel like my scar was protected.

Picking the baby up will be fine, provided it's not off the floor. So have a chest of drawers / table to put the changing mat on, and a stand for the Moses basket. Bath the baby in the lichen sink standing up rather than leaning over the bath.

Lichen???! kitchen

KippyVonKipperson · 07/10/2013 22:07

I think you'll be fine with picking the baby up, just go slowly. I don't think you need any extra equipment in that respect. Change baby on your bed for the first few weeks rather than floor, or on top of chest of drawers.

Pillow for feeding would be useful

Big granny pants and comfy pyjama bottoms

Then just make sure you look after yourself as well as the baby by eating and drinking properly, with the painkillers and not moving much, plus using up more fluid by feeding its very easy to get constipated easily.

I had a u shaped pillow and it was a God send. It lifted the baby high enough and I noticed how good it was when I forgot it and had to hold baby myself. Killed my arms as he was heavy. It was also good for supporting him when he sat up. I had a EMCS and it stopped the baby lying right across the scar so protected that too.

Rest as much as possible. I did too much which started my blood loss up again.

Great. Just the info i was after. Love the boxer short idea. I currently sleep in my Husbands as they are big, comfy and i can slap the bio oil on all over my thighs. Will definitely get a feeding pillow. Thanks Grin
