2x positive tests... what now?!

Hi I'm new here and just looking for some help/advice.

I did a test last night after being 15 days late and it was immediately positive. After reading hcg levels can be lower at night I thought I'd do another this morning and that was also showing positive.

I've been totally off food for the past 4-5 days and have a strange pre-period like ache around my abdomen and back. I waited a while as I was convinced I was just late due to stress.

This is my first experience of any of this so I'm a bit confused - what does this mean, am I definitely pregnant? If so where do I go from here? My partner is away at the moment and I told him the results, although I'm not sure how he really feels about it. I'm also worried as this was completely unplanned (was on contraceptives) and therefore I've not been taking vitamins/folic acid etc.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

congratulations.

You almost certainly are pregnant as tests very rarely give a false positive.

Do start taking folic acid as soon as possible, or splash out on a pregnancy multi vitamin, as you should take vitamin d as well.

Book an appointment with your GP, you can discuss options with them.

Try not to worry about how your partner will take it. Tell him when you see him next, his initial reaction may not be the same as his considered reaction. (we'd been ttc for 2 1/2 years, was about to start ivf when I got pregnant, DH still had a mini freak out! He quickly returned to sense!)

good luck.

hey. this means you are pregnant. It can be a difficult time when its a bit of a surprise. I would make an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible and start taking some folic acid..

hope when the shock wears off youl feel better..

congrats your going to have a baby..

Yes you are definitely pregnant.

Firstly ring your doctors and ask what it is you have to do. In some clinics you need to speak to a doctor first, in others you self refer to midwives.

It will take a while for the shock to wear off.

How are you feeling about the pregnancy?

Hi thanks everyone.

Shocked really and trying to get my head around it, although the fatigue and general nausea make sense. Trying to work out how far I may be, but not sure how you calculate that!

Our doctor is closed for the weekend, but I'll call first thing on Monday. Luckily I pick up the OH from the airport on Wednesday and he said we'll talk about it... it's a lot to take in and he has a grown up daughter from his previous marriage.

Personally although I feel like rubbish at the moment physically, it's quite exciting if really really unexpected. Not looking forward to working in a restaurant this evening though, the smell of food will kill me!

Also wondering how you estimate time? I've been reading on here and some folk say you add 2 weeks to the time your period is late?

So confused! If I was 15 days late what would that make me?

Thanks in advance

You can estimate from the first day of your last period if you know that and we're regular. Just put that date into one on the many due date calculators online (just google due date calculator Smile).

If you're regular you are probably around 6 weeks I reckon!

Congratulations!!!

Hi

I did the clear blue digital this morning and I got a 3+ so looks like it is about 6 weeks... that would explain why I'm nauseous!

Now I have to look into something to curb it as it's horrible :(

If you go to the antenatal board, you can join the thread for the month you're due. People are really helpful and you'll find out lots of info about next steps etc.

Crackers or water biscuits are good for morning sickness. Just nibbling little and often, sometimes with a glass of milk. (at least, thats what helped me). If you have a look in the pregnancy section at the top of the page, there is a due date calculator which should confirm things for you. Congratulations.

Hi thanks I'll do that - I guess next stage is to get in touch with the doctor etc. :)
