I thought something was up when drinking coffee started making me feel sick, had general nausea and tiredness and went off fruit in a big way and wanted all things salty. But put it down to house move stress and ignored it. When pre-period rage and pain did not arrive I got suspicious, then period did not show so I did test yesterday and low and behold....a blue positive in the window. We are really excited but I have no clue, thought that sicky feelings did not start until around week 6 and Am having to go to the loo in the middle of the night, which is a pain as you have to sort of leave the main bit and go through a dark cold porch ( bathroom is in downstairs annex and I make the dog come with me as am scared). This pregnancy is very much wanted but its too early to tell anyone, I would usually talk to my mum but I do not want to get her hopes up just in case....there are loads of books out there, was wondering if anyone knows of a non-fussy book that will tell me what to expect, when and what I need to do (got pamAlso worried as very bad morning sickness runs in the family and when it might start as already I feel bit sea-sick.

Firstly, congratulations!

Secondly, feeling sick can happen from very early on

Things that can help combat it include eating little but often, eating as soon as you wake up, eating whatever you feel you can stomach even if that means Monster Munch for breakfast!
Those pressure point sea sickness bands I've also heard help some people. If it does get bad, you really dont have to suffer, go to your GP and ask for medication, there are lots of types of anti-emetics that you can try.

I didnt buy any books for pregnancy tbh, got most of my information online but pregnancy bible gets good reviews, maybe have a look round on Amazon?

Lastly, there is a June 2014 ante-natal thread here, might be nice to sympathise with others in the same boat!

What to expect when you're expecting by Heidi Murkov was my book of choice for both pregnancies.

Thanks loads and loads, will check out thread and both books xx

Congratulations!

Sticking polo mints helped me with the sickness, I wish someone had told me about it sooner. Otherwise just eat what you can manage.

I hate to break it to you but the night peeing is only going to get worse. By the end of my pregnancy I was up 5-6 times most nights. Maybe try to think of ways you can make the bathroom walk easier?

I'm not sure about books, but my library has write a few, worth checking it out to see if you can find one you like.

BummyMummy77 · 05/10/2013 12:06

For the peeing thing, use a bucket next to the bed lol.

I was going literally 15-20 times a night, quite a walk to the bathroom when it was -25 outside so about 0 inside.

Until the bucket.

Ha, I may invest in olde style chamber pot!

Congratulations Hun. Sickness can start early mine was about week 4 my mum was sick a week before her missed period.

Don't worry this is my first I'm 12 weeks now and trying to take one day at a time I feel clueless too.

I've only seen a midwife once and waiting for my scan next Tuesday,

Chamber pot sounds like a good idea. I would like going down stairs to pee all the time.

Sarahmains40 · 05/10/2013 13:19

Wouldn't not would lol

Sickness can start very early. I'm normally sick even before my period is due. However, I suffer from hyperemesis so my sickness is at the severe end.
I just wanted to say that hopefully your sickness will be normal yuck type stuff rather than HG. However, if you find yourself unable to keep anything down and the vomiting is excessive, get to your GP for some help. There is an excellent support thread on here and the women there will be able to give you lots of help on what to say to the GP so you don't get fobbed off with 'it's normal.' I'm getting ready to leave hospital today after a 3day stay.
