we are going to London tomorrow and I am hoping that there might be some shops that still stock a maternity range. we are likely to head toward oxford street to john Lewis for things for dc1. does anyone know anywhere worth a try, I dude a search but most threads are from 2008 and it seems since then most retailers only do online stuff! Tia.

The Next on Oxford St has a large maternity department, as do H&M and Topshop (also on oxford street). Can't think of any specialist maternity shops in that area though...

LittleNickola · 04/10/2013 13:59

Actually I think you might need to go to the H&M on regent street instead - not sure the oxford st one does maternity. And when you're on regent street, there's Mamas and Papas too.

brilliant. thank you!

The gap on Oxford street also has a maternity range that I bought some basics from just over a year ago. Think it's the h&m on regent street that now does maternity clothes, and as pp said mamas and papas and top shop.

Wimwom · 04/10/2013 14:35

Mamas and papas on regent street has shut - I tried to go there last weekend. New look has stuff - jeans are good from there.

night1971 · 04/10/2013 14:36

Seraphine on regents street I think.

mootime · 04/10/2013 14:38

Zara on Oxford St has a small selection.

WhatWouldCaitlinDo · 04/10/2013 14:40

John Lewis also now stocks seraphine, but the range is quite limited. So you could start there.

Having said that, I found online much better than shops when I was expecting. I work by Oxford Street and blitzed all of the above with very mixed results; they had small selections, funny sizes, etc.

Asos, seraphine, Isabella Oliver, topshop, H&M were all good online.

Smerlin · 04/10/2013 15:19

H and M and Topshop DO NOT have big ranges of maternity stuff up there- Topshop in particular has a very sparse range compared to the enormous size of the shop!

I found it more worthwhile to order a load of things online at Asos and send back (free) the things that didn't fit- going to Oxf St was a waste of time in my opinion- would have been quite cross if I had made a special trip!

LostMySocks · 04/10/2013 18:03

i think GAP have just pulled maternity from stores as website now state that maternity online only. i tried oxford street and it was rubbish. couldn't find mamas and papas so it may now have shut

violetbean · 04/10/2013 18:24

New Look on Oxford St has a maternity section but it does seem to be getting smaller by the week.

Think mamas and papas on regent street closed down.

Hope you find some nice stuff! Don't forget sometimes non-maternity ranges have stretchy clothes that work perfectly well - my favourite top at the moment (29 weeks) is just a normal stretchy colourful top from Debenhams.

violetbean · 04/10/2013 18:26

Ooh forgot to say, I tried Gap on Oxford Street a few weeks ago and they said they had closed their maternity section. :-(

MummyLuce · 04/10/2013 23:22

Topshop topshop topshop!!! I'm going there as well-going to get the pale jeggings and swing coat xx

The new look and h&m on the east side of Oxford circus tube both do maternity but not much there. At the marble arch end there's a mothercare, plus the flagship m&s and flagship new look: I haven't been in the latter two but they're huge and would imagine they'd do maternity. I thought top shop was crap. Size 12 maternity leggings are basically a size 14 pair of normal leggings: too small for me at 16 weeks!

WarpKitten · 05/10/2013 10:55

Agree with violetbean, got some nice size 16 and 18 normal stuff that's comfy and definitely got more weeks in them. I'm 28 weeks.

mrsmellow · 05/10/2013 10:58

I couldn't find anything on Oxford st and bought all online. Very frustrating!

katebakes · 05/10/2013 14:48

I bought some very nice things from marks and spencer - none maternity and all in my normal size 6 or 8. I got a lovely coat and then found some jumpers in the sale. I'm 34 weeks tomorrow.

I've found the bottoms a big more difficult so have opted for either maternity leggings or maternity jeans from top shop.

I also bought primark yoga pants and leggings - non maternity but a larger size than I would have been pre pregnancy.

Asos is a good idea in theory but never fits me wonderfully well, pregnant or not.

If you're not very big you could just try normal clothes in a larger size.

katebakes · 05/10/2013 14:50

PS I'm having a normal sized child but I haven't really become very big - my friend called me the tardis of pregnant women which made me laugh.

stringornothing · 05/10/2013 14:54

If you're going anyway then definitely try H&M Regents Street, which does still have a maternity range in the basement by the kids wear. They might not have anything you fancy, but if they do then it will be cheap and you can try it on without faffing about with returns.

LittlePeaPod · 05/10/2013 18:21

Hi Op. I have got all my maternity clotes from here (link attached). Actually made two special trips with DH from Yorjshire to London just to go here. Sad I know Grin. I though they were brilliant and all the clothes are really comfy and the look brilliant on. I don't feel like I am in maternity clothes.
