Flying

Hi all, after your thoughts if poss please
I have a meeting in Yorkshire next week and my boss is on about flying to Leeds Bradford from Heathrow. Seems a bit excessive to me but nevermind. It's pretty much on the day I turn 12 weeks and I'm a bit nervous about it as this is a long awaited IVF baby. I've looked at the NHS website and it advises caution up to 12 weeks. Would you fly or go another way?
Also is flying to Germany at 20 weeks ok?

Thanks

I also flew when I was around 12 weeks, and the doctors/midwives said there wasn't a medical issue with doing so. (as a matter of fact I also flew to the US at 34 weeks, and they also said it was all ok)

That being said, it's also important that you don't feel too stressed or nervous about it. If it's going to worry you unnecessarily, it's not worth it - just take the train!

I flew 5 hours at 12 weeks and I flew 4 hurs at 19 weeks and I have just got back on Tuesday and that was a total of 11 hours flying and I am 27 weeks. London to Leeds is ony about an hour. The MW, consultant, doctor and insurers all said fine to fly.

The only time you need a medical certificate to flyis post 28 weeks.

Caip, the NHS website only says that some women prefer not to fly before 12 weeks as they might be feeling rubbish or if the worst was to happen they wouldn't want to be on a plane or abroad Smile

Flying does not pose a risk to your baby, especially a short flight early on. The only reason they don't let you fly in the last month is to avoid delivering babies in the aisles. Flying absolutely does not cause miscarriage, although if you go on a long flight in the first trimester you do have the small risk of beginning to miscarry on the flight which would be horrid, but the flight would not have caused it.
if you would rather not fly that is fair enough, you could always drive instead
